The Department of Culture and Leisure is responsible for a vibrant cultural and sports life, as well as a diverse range of leisure activities in Södertälje Municipality. The department manages libraries, a cultural school, an art hall, youth leisure centers, sports facilities, Torekällberg, and outdoor recreation.

The libraries in Södertälje consist of two units: Area Libraries (Hovsjö Library), neighborhood libraries in Enhörna, Järna, Hölö, and Mölnbo, as well as the Book Bus.

For us, the libraries are places for literature and culture – open and safe meeting points for all citizens.

Your Responsibilities

You will work at Järna Library, located in the newly renovated cultural house Futurum in the center of Järna. Futurum is a meeting place where the library, youth center, and Cultural School are housed together. You will work alongside a colleague, a librarian and a cultural pedagogue, with your primary focus being activities aimed at adults.

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Work promoting reading.
• Environmental scanning and collaboration with other actors.
• Subject monitoring, media planning, and purchasing.
• Planning programs and activities for adults.
• Responsibility for accessible media and book collections.
• Staffing duties and other routine tasks for a librarian.

Requirements:

• A degree in Library and Information Science or another relevant higher education qualification deemed equivalent by the employer.

Merits:

• Several years of experience working in public libraries.
• Experience working with programs for adults.
• A genuine interest in promoting reading and interacting with people.
• Good proficiency in Swedish and English; additional languages are a plus.
• Good IT skills.
• Experience working with a diversity perspective.

What we offer

The position is a fixed-term contract for six months at 100% full-time. Start date: November 2, 2026.

The workplace is located in Järna, which is easily accessible by commuter train from Stockholm if you wish to travel by public transport.

Järna Library will be open six days a week starting in the autumn. The position includes evening and weekend shifts.
