Your Role
In the role of Special Educator, you work with targeted pedagogical interventions for students in grades 7-9 who are in need of special support in mathematics. You are part of the school's student health team and a special educator team consisting of five special educators and one special needs teacher. Together with teachers, students, and guardians, you create the best conditions for student learning through support measures, adaptations, and good relationships.
As a Special Educator, you actively work with teaching and support students through individualized measures in the classroom, in small groups, and individually. At the same time, you are responsible for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of teaching based on the curriculum and the Education Act. At certain times each week, you work together in the special educator team in the school's learning studio for the lower secondary school, where students receive support in mathematics, Swedish, and English.
With security and commitment, you mentor and support colleagues and workgroups, contributing special pedagogical competence regarding adaptations, teaching strategies, and learning environments related to mathematics development. You keep up-to-date with current research in special pedagogy and share your theoretical knowledge and pedagogical competence. You observe, document, follow up, write action plans, apply for additional funds, and create action programs and pedagogical investigations of students' need for special support. Furthermore, you conduct and analyze screenings and other mappings related to students' mathematical development.
The work takes place in close collaboration with the special educator team, teachers, school management, and the student health team. Together, you work across professions with remedial, promoting, and preventive measures based on students' needs. You lead meetings with students and guardians to inform about and discuss selected measures and collaborate regarding students' needs with other actors, both within and outside the school.
Your Experience
For this position, you are required to have:
- Teacher certification with eligibility to teach in grades 7-9.
- A Special Educator degree with a specialization in Mathematics Development.
- Experience working as a teacher in lower secondary school.
- Experience working as a Special Educator in mathematics.
- Knowledge and experience in mapping needs and documenting support measures, such as pedagogical investigations and action programs.
- Good digital competence with experience working with digital pedagogical tools.
- Good ability to express yourself well in Swedish, both orally and in writing.
It is an advantage if you also have experience mentoring teachers.
Is this you?
To succeed in the role, you need to be able to collaborate, communicate, and build good relationships with students, guardians, colleagues, and school management. Your relationship-building skills create security, trust, and a good foundation for joyful learning. You are a secure and independent Special Educator who, with the support of your profession and special pedagogical competence, dares to act and make decisions. At the same time, you are flexible and solution-oriented and have an easy time adapting to changed circumstances and students' needs. With a good overall perspective, you take into account the larger perspective in actions and decisions, always with the best interests of the students and the organization in focus.
