The Department of Neurology is a highly specialized clinic with regional responsibility for the entire South-Eastern Healthcare Region. The department includes a ward with an acute neurology unit, a stroke unit, a highly specialized investigation unit, and a monitoring unit. Additionally, there are outpatient clinics at both Linköping University Hospital and Vrinnevi Hospital in Norrköping, offering extensive services across all neurological diagnostic areas, as well as a neuromuscular laboratory/unit with a national mandate for highly specialized care.

What We Offer

Forward for life. Region Östergötland has high ambitions and a responsible mission. It is about health and care, the development of our region, and the people who live and visit here. We want to continue to be at the forefront with care, research, and education. This means daring to think new thoughts – and having the best employees. Therefore, we offer unique opportunities for further learning and invest in modern environments with efficient systems and tools. Many of us meet patients and relatives, while others create the conditions for vital interventions. Here, fantastic people work towards the same goal – to make a real difference, and forward for life.

The Department of Neurology values development, education, and innovation. We know that the work as a nurse can sometimes be challenging, so we focus heavily on providing support to our nurses, both in daily work and for the long term. If you have plans to conduct nursing research, now or in the future, we are open to discussions on how a clinical position can be combined with research at the department.

We are very attentive to students doing their practice-based education (VFU) at the department and strive for all nurses to have supervisor training. The main supervisors work very actively on the ward, and we have won the VFU prize.

Here you can read about our career ladder for nurses and also about your benefits with us.

Job Description

On Ward B181, you work with both the somatic and psychological aspects of your patients' diagnoses, as diseases of the brain and nervous system affect both these areas. You will work with acute care, rehabilitation, and palliative care. Since the patients have significant nursing needs, you have the opportunity to become an expert in nursing, your profession's specialist area. You train your clinical eye as our patients' conditions can deteriorate quickly, and you gain good medical experience and knowledge. We work closely in teams with doctors, nursing assistants, and paramedics, and have team rounds three times a week where all professions are represented.

The neurology on-call service is stationed at the university hospital even at night, which provides a short response time if needed and is a great reassurance for you as a nurse. You always have a nursing colleague to collaborate with, and the ward has a relatively high staffing of nursing assistants related to the patients' care needs.

Introduction takes place during the day, according to your own needs. We believe that an individually adapted start leads to a secure employee. We have developed our introduction program, which includes among other things a ProAct course and a mentor program during the first year of employment. We also offer the Clinical Base Year to all our newly graduated nurses.

Work Group

There are seven charge nurses at the department. Their tasks include driving specific processes from a nursing perspective and acting as mentors and knowledge support for less experienced colleagues. This gives the department good conditions regarding development and support for new employees. The department has approximately 150 employees.

About You

You have a nursing degree. Experience in neurology, acute care, and/or monitoring care is meritorious. You have good Swedish skills in speech and writing.

As a person, you take responsibility and adapt easily to changed circumstances. It is important that you can work in a structured manner and prioritize your interventions. You also have good cooperation skills.

Application and Employment

We are looking for you who are interested in a rotational position day/evening/night, but if you want to work permanent nights with a reduced weekly working time of 32 hours, that opportunity exists as well. Possibility for some part-time leave is also available if you wish. We have a preference schedule and work two out of five weekends.

We work with ongoing contracts, so please send in your application as soon as possible.

Before employment in a patient-facing role within Region Östergötland, you will be asked to fill out a health declaration.

We warmly welcome your application! If you need help registering in the system, contact customer service Support and Service, 010-103 60 00, during office hours.

To staffing, mediation, and recruitment agencies and to you who are a seller:

We kindly but firmly decline direct contact with staffing, mediation, and recruitment agencies as well as other external actors and sellers of additional job advertisements. Region Östergötland has procured agreements.
