About the Workplace: Hällsboskolan Umeå

Hällsboskolan Umeå is a ten-year state special school under the Swedish National Agency for Special Education.

The school admits students with severe speech disorders from all over the country. The school has a clear focus on language-supporting and language-developing teaching and adapts the school day based on students' individual needs. The teaching is based on the special school ordinance according to basic or adapted basic school curricula.

The school's goal is for students to have the prerequisites to achieve knowledge goals, be involved and active in various social contexts, and develop as individuals.

Job Responsibilities

We are looking for a teacher with a teaching license that provides broad subject eligibility to teach in lower secondary school (grades 1-4).

As a teacher here, you work with knowledgeable and experienced colleagues in the daily work of adapting for an accessible learning environment. In teaching, you work together with colleagues to support students' knowledge development and goal achievement.

We have small teaching groups to create good conditions for learning and for every student to feel involved and to develop their communicative ability and language together with others. Various forms of documentation are relevant – for example, special support and assessments.

The work with us requires close collaboration with students' guardians as well as other external actors who are important for students' health and development.

You will also have support from a special education teacher, IT-pedagogue, counselor, psychologist, school nurse, and speech therapist.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who:

Education

  • Have a teaching license with eligibility to teach in grades 1–4 in Swedish, mathematics, English, social studies (SO), natural sciences (NO), and technology.

Work Experience

  • Experience working with students with severe speech disorders.
  • Experience working with children in need of special support.
  • Experience working with children with neuropsychiatric disabilities.
  • Experience using IT and media in operations.
  • Experience with AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication).

Other Knowledge

  • You have the ability to see each individual student's prerequisites and opportunities.

Language Skills and Communication

  • You express yourself well in speech and writing.

IT Skills

  • Good IT skills.

  • You are flexible in your working methods, solution-oriented, and have experience collaborating in teams regarding student groups.
  • Alone and together with others, you contribute to creating a safe and trusting environment based on mutual respect and good relationships.
  • You have personal maturity, integrity, and are proactive.

Employment Terms

Type of Employment: Fixed-term employment.
Duration: 3–6 months.
