The Department of Culture and Leisure is responsible for the municipality's libraries, cultural school, sports halls and sports grounds, open child and youth activities, grants to associations and study associations, cultural activities, Vårby Library with Barnkonsten, Fullersta Farm, purchase of art, and distribution of grants and prizes in sports and culture.

Children's Librarian (Fixed-term approx. 12 months)

Do you want to work in a creative environment where you inspire children to love reading and curiosity every day? We are now looking for an engaged and imaginative Children's Librarian who wants to develop our children's activities with more events.

About the role

As a Children's Librarian, you are a key person in the work of developing the library's operations for children and their adults. You meet our visitors partly at the information desk where you offer service, guidance, and reading tips, and partly in various activities – always with a friendly approach!

You work closely with children of different ages and their accompanying adults by:

  • receiving children's groups
  • collaborating with preschools, preschool classes, Child Health Centers (BVC), open preschools, and family centers
  • planning and conducting storytimes, book talks, and inspiring children's activities

With your creativity, you contribute to awakening children's love for reading, imagination, and language development.

Your responsibilities also include

  • purchasing, weeding, and developing the children's department's media collection and layout
  • keeping the collection current, relevant, and inspiring
  • responsibility for deposits of children's books in the local area

About you

To thrive and succeed in this role, we see that you:

  • Have a library science degree or equivalent academic education
  • Have digital competence. For example, being able to handle the Office package, Quria, or similar library systems, and being familiar with digital aids and tools
  • Have good communicative skills in Swedish, both spoken and written

We consider it meritorious if you:

  • Have worked in the library system Quria
  • Have worked with children aged 0–6 years
  • Have worked in a public library
  • Are multilingual

As a person, we believe you:

  • have a strong commitment to children, literature, and language development
  • are creative, proactive, and like trying new working methods
  • enjoy meeting people and are confident speaking in front of groups
  • want to help develop the library's role in society
