Librarian for Skiftinge – Developing Social Impact and Digital Accessibility

Eskilstuna Library is undergoing a development process, "Public Library 2.0," with a focus on contributing more clearly to societal development. The goal is for the library to be part of society's social infrastructure – a democratic meeting place and a hub for lifelong learning.

The library operations include the city library in the center, six branches, and a library bus. The position is primarily located at the Skiftinge branch, which is part of the meeting place Palatzet. Here, the library collaborates with other actors to strengthen participation, trust, and education.

Responsibilities

In the role of Library Guide, you have two main areas of responsibility: working relationally with reading promotion initiatives, and developing and inspiring within the digital field.

As a relational reading promoter, your focus is on building trusting relationships with residents in the area. You collaborate with schools, municipal operations at the Skiftinge meeting place, associations, study associations, and other societal actors to strengthen reading, language, and participation.

As a digital inspirer, you work to counteract digital exclusion and contribute to developing the library's digital working methods. You ensure that digital competence becomes an integrated part of the operations and drive the development of working methods and approaches in this area.

The assignment includes creating a safe and inclusive hospitality, where you meet people in a professional and relational manner. You actively work to spark interest in reading and writing, especially among prioritized target groups such as young boys, people with a mother tongue other than Swedish, young adults with short educational backgrounds, people in involuntary loneliness, and other groups at increased risk of social exclusion.

You plan and carry out activities for all ages with a creative, inclusive, and user-oriented approach. The role also involves strengthening the library's digital competence by developing workflows and using digital tools in a relevant and purposeful way. You are also responsible for digital initiatives directed at the municipality's seniors.

Evening and weekend work is included in the position, both at Skiftinge Library and the City Library.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who have a university education with a relevant focus for the tasks, for example sociology, pedagogy, behavioral science, anthropology, or library and information science. You thrive in a role where you work both operationally and strategically and have experience working in areas with specific societal challenges.

You are accustomed to working in creative projects and have a well-developed ability to build and maintain relationships with different people. You feel confident handling challenging encounters and have the ability to adapt your approach depending on the situation and individual. Furthermore, you have a strong pedagogical drive and experience speaking to groups. You also have documented experience using digital tools as support in business development.

Since the role involves many contact surfaces and collaborations, it is important that you are proactive, enjoy collaborating with others, and have the ability to engage and create participation. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.

It is an advantage if you have experience working with creative reading promotion projects directed at non-reading groups, have been active in association life in socio-economically disadvantaged areas, or have language skills in addition to Swedish and English.
