About the Department

Defence Health (Försvarshälsan) is an integrated occupational health service with the Swedish Armed Forces as the client. We are a resource for both the employer and the employee.

We provide occupational health services and are active in the Swedish Armed Forces' health promotion work. We work to prevent and eliminate health risks in the workplace. We also provide work-related health and medical care for conscripts and employees, maintain medical readiness during military exercises, and are an integrated part of the unit's combined operations.

At Defence Health Såtenäs, the staff includes a medical operations manager who is also the department manager, company doctors, flight surgeons, physiotherapists, nurses, psychologists, health educators, occupational safety engineers, and medical secretaries.

Main Responsibilities

As a doctor within Defence Health, you play a very important role in our mission to promote health and create good and safe workplaces. Your focus is on the individual in relation to their work, and through our multidisciplinary team, you will work to create a health-promoting work environment. The Swedish Armed Forces as a workplace varies depending on the individual's tasks, which means our support to the individual can look very different. The client base consists of military, civilian, and conscripted personnel.

The main focus of the work will be on receiving conscripts during their basic training, fitness assessments prior to employment and overseas service, statutory medical examinations, and work-oriented rehabilitation. Tasks at the group and organizational levels may also occur, such as advisory and educational roles.

Opportunities for support with further education in occupational medicine and/or aviation medicine are available.

Additional assignments as the medically responsible doctor may be relevant for this position.

REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications

  • Swedish medical license with a clinical, patient-oriented specialty.
  • Very good ability to express yourself in speech and writing in both Swedish and English.
  • Category B driver's license for manual transmission vehicles.
  • Swedish citizenship.

BENEFICIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Additional specialties in occupational and environmental medicine, or alternatively documented experience in medical fitness assessments, statutory medical examinations, and work-oriented rehabilitation.
  • Education and experience in aviation medicine.

Other Information

Employment type: Permanent. The position starts with a six-month probationary period.

Employment level: Full-time. The operations are conducted mostly during daytime with free weekends, but other working hours may occur.

Work location: Såtenäs

Date of commencement: As soon as possible according to agreement

The position entails requirements for physical and mental capacity. Travel for work and personal education occurs. Since both the position and tasks are linked to a wartime organization, you will also be assigned to wartime duties in our organization. This means, among other things, that you will receive training on what is expected of you during heightened readiness.

Skaraborg Wing is a versatile and unique air wing. Here you find combat aircraft as well as the Swedish Armed Forces' combined resource of transport and special aircraft. We conduct basic and occupational training for conscripted recruits and train all Swedish and foreign Gripen pilots. The unit also participates in many operations. In Sweden, the operations are located in Såtenäs, Malmen, Arlanda, and Karlsborg. Abroad, we are responsible for Gripen support in Thailand and for the Swedish personnel at the international transport cooperation Heavy Airlift Wing in Hungary.
