Stockholm – our capital city of millions of dreams, expectations, and ambitions. We work for everyone who lives here today and in the future. Now we are looking for you who want to think big, new, and different with us – for the people of Stockholm.

Culture is an important part of Stockholm's nervous system and touches millions of people every year. At the Culture Administration, we work together to strengthen cultural life in Stockholm.

Here, an open working climate prevails where employees are highly involved in development. Join us and contribute to Stockholm growing with culture!

Welcome to us

Stockholm City Library has approximately 350 employees and about 40 libraries in the City of Stockholm. The unit's libraries consist of Kungsholmen Library, International Library, Östermalm Library, Stora Essingen Library, and Norra Djurgårdsstaden Library. You will primarily work at Kungsholmen Library, but you will occasionally conduct activities at the unit's other libraries. Kungsholmen Library is the unit's emergency library and is open 7 days a week, weekdays 10:00–20:00 and weekends 10:00–17:00. You will be part of a team with the unit's other employees who work with children and young people. You will also collaborate with the entire staff of the unit and not least the unit's producer and communicator.

The libraries work for the development of a democratic society by contributing to knowledge dissemination and free opinion formation. Stockholm City Library plays a central role by offering all Stockholmers free access to culture, education, information, and public services.

The library pedagogue we are now looking for will work with a focus on public activities and in close dialogue with children and young people. Since the libraries focus particularly on the target group aged 13–18, this group will also be particularly prioritized.

Kungsholmen Library, International Library, has a special focus on language and societal issues and is a well-visited library where we test new working methods and staffing models. The unit's libraries have a large program activity where you will join and contribute.

Meeting our visitors with an open, warm, and quality offer and with a mobile and outreach working approach is A and O in our operations.

We offer

Stockholm City Library offers a generous range of further education and in-depth knowledge via the Culture Administration's learning portal. We offer fitness allowances with discounts at various training facilities and free entry to the Culture Administration's own cultural institutions. Through Margit Lamm's generous memorial fund, staff can apply for grants for travel and further education.

Your role

We are looking for a library pedagogue with education and experience in creative activities within one and preferably several artistic subjects and modes of expression. You feel comfortable with both children and young people, and you move in a broad field of tension between the youngest and their parents, and the young adults who have just become adults. At the larger libraries, there are ateliers to work from.

In your role, you should inspire and encourage reading, source criticism, and creation in various forms. Through different techniques, materials, and working methods, you open up art and culture for our visitors and contribute to us reaching more people through our activities. You tie together the library's mission and by programming the space and our ateliers, we reach more people with a larger offer.

You work outwardly, outreach-oriented, and curiously. You initiate and collaborate with various individuals, networks, and partners, as well as other activities within the Culture Administration. In your role, you have dialogue with schools and leisure centers. You drive and carry out program activities during the terms, with extra focus on extended programs during school holidays.

You are creative, service-oriented, and have a warm and professional attitude towards our visitors in the library. You are flexible, proactive, and self-starting. You thrive in a changing environment where you contribute to the operations and the library's physical environments reaching their full potential. You work with equal parts structure and planning, but you thrive in an operation where you get to improvise and seize opportunities.

Your competence and experience

We are looking for you who have:

  • A degree in library and information science, pedagogical education from an artistic institution, or other education that the employer deems equivalent.
  • Experience in pedagogical work within a field relevant to the position.
  • Knowledge of methods within pedagogy, information, and literature mediation.
  • Good digital competence and the ability to inspire and help colleagues and visitors.
  • You use various digital tools unimpeded in your pedagogical work.

It is meritorious if you have:

  • Worked at a library previously and have (at least one year's) experience working with reading-promoting activities for children and/or working with creative creation activities for children and young people.
  • Worked at a Culture House or another artistic institution.
