Birger Jarls Gymnasium strives to be a school where every student feels safe, heard, and seen. Therefore, we are now looking for a substitute teacher who will work alongside the regular teacher in a year 2 class that requires additional support.

The position starts at the beginning of the term in August, or as agreed upon.

About the Position

We are looking for an experienced and confident teacher who values students' differences and needs with warmth and understanding. You are accommodating and relationship-building, but not afraid to set boundaries and be clear when necessary.

You will partly be present in the classroom together with the regular teacher in each subject, with the aim of supporting students who need help. However, there will also be a need to take out a smaller group of students who may benefit from working in a smaller setting. As a substitute teacher, you are expected to continue the instruction independently with this small group.

For this reason, it is important that you have good insight into the regular teachers' planning every day, and that you are willing to collaborate and support the teacher in planning.

Since you will be with the class in all the different subjects they study, it is important that you feel comfortable with a wide variety of teaching, even outside your own subject areas.

The position is initially a fixed-term appointment for one year, but may subsequently be extended and/or converted into a permanent position if the need persists.

As a teacher at Birger Jarls Gymnasium, you are part of a tight team of teachers in various subjects, and you are therefore expected to be cooperative and considerate towards your colleagues.

Birger Jarls Gymnasium should be a safe and welcoming place for our students, and as a teacher, you are expected to treat both students and staff professionally, and deliver quality at every lesson.

You are passionate about your teaching role and your subject(s), and it is of great importance to you to inspire your students and support them in reaching their goals.

Qualifications

We are looking for you with several years of teaching experience, preferably at the upper secondary level, and experience with students in need of special support. We prefer that you are a certified teacher, but most importantly, that you are calm and patient, friendly, and have a low-affective approach. Your subject combination is of lesser importance, but it is clearly meritorious if you have subject knowledge in mathematics.

Since the idea is that you are with the same class for all their lessons, it is meritorious if you have experience with, for example, substitute teaching in subjects outside your subject combination.

The role includes shared mentorship in your class together with another teacher.

Otherwise, it includes standard administration such as documentation, follow-up of students, contact with guardians, etc.

About the School:

Birger Jarls Gymnasium in Stockholm started in the autumn of 2018. The school currently has just over 200 students.

The school offers two university-preparatory programs:

- The Economics Program with specializations in Economics and Law.

- The Social Science Program with specializations in Social Science and Behavioral Science.
