Specialist Nurse in Diabetes Care welcome to growing clinic with expanded role for pregnant women with Type 1 diabetes

The Diabetes and Endocrine Clinic at Östra Hospital is expanding its operations during 2026, meaning that care for pregnant women with Type 1 diabetes will be centralized to our clinic. Together with another diabetes nurse, caring for pregnant women will be your primary task at the clinic, but the work also includes diabetes and endocrine patients who are not pregnant. The work with us is flexible – it can be performed physically at the clinic or via digital meetings with patients, and in consultation with other colleagues and the unit manager, the digital patient work can also be performed from home. A large part of patient meetings takes place digitally.

As a diabetes nurse, you play a central role in the patient's care and in contact with other involved clinics. You work with nursing, dose adjustment, evaluation, and testing of medical technical aids. A large part of the work is to support the patient's self-care. The use of modern technology is a major part of the daily work. Our patients use continuous glucose monitoring, insulin pumps, smart pens, apps, and associated cloud services. The work involves staying up to date regarding new research and technology.

In the specific role with pregnant patients with Type 1 diabetes, you will, with the support of doctors, have close contact with the patient throughout the entire pregnancy. You will guide and support the patient through all phases of pregnancy, including birth and breastfeeding planning. The proximity to the women's clinic makes it easy to have direct and quick contact with midwives and obstetricians.

About you

We are looking for you who are a licensed specialist nurse with a focus on diabetes care. We would like you to have previous experience working with patients with Type 1 diabetes and have good knowledge of diabetes technical products with associated apps and cloud services.

You are meticulous, confident in your role, and have a good approach with the patient in focus. You thrive taking personal responsibility, appreciate teamwork, and have an interest in improvement work. Personal suitability will also be taken into account.

If you are a newly graduated nurse, you will join the Clinical Base Year, which is our introduction program. The Clinical Base Year is mandatory and lasts during the first year of your employment with us. The Clinical Base Year includes lectures, nursing guidance, and practical training of your profession at the Simulator Center. In addition, it includes working on at least two different wards to broaden your competence.

In the event of recruiting nurses/doctors with foreign licenses/specialist certificates, the current position will be preceded by a process to meet the requirements for Swedish license/specialist certificate.
