Do you want to work with animal welfare and food safety, supported by competent and helpful colleagues? Do you want an employer that invests in sustainable employee engagement and offers secure, advantageous working conditions? Welcome to the role of Official Veterinarian at the Swedish Food Agency!

Control for Quality

Public food control is the only independent quality stamp for food that Sweden has. The control is currently being developed and modernized to further strengthen consumers' trust in food produced in Sweden. As a veterinarian here, you have the opportunity to influence this development and grow with it.

Team Linköping

You will be part of Team Linköping, located in the same city. Here, you will work together with 19 engaged, helpful, and pleasant colleagues, both official veterinarians and food controllers. In other words, there is always a colleague nearby to consult and receive support from.

The Swedish Food Agency actively works on team development and offers many employee benefits; health care and additional vacation days are just a few examples.

Job Responsibilities

Food control offers varied tasks, and one day is rarely like the next. As an Official Veterinarian, you inspect animals arriving at slaughterhouses and are a crucial part of the chain towards safe food. You will use your broad veterinary medical competence to ensure, through live animal inspection and meat inspection, that the animals used for food are healthy. Inspection of game meat is also part of the daily routine.

Working in food control is rewarding and challenging. You are a public authority official dealing with many different interests. You have a control function, but you also act as a support to help businesses understand how to comply with regulations. Your team is always close by. You exchange experiences, build knowledge, and develop together in your daily work. Together, you contribute to developing control within your area.

Your Qualifications

To work as an Official Veterinarian with us, you must have a Swedish veterinary license, or a veterinary license from another country approved by the Swedish Board of Agriculture for practice in Sweden. You should have good administrative skills and possess good knowledge of Swedish in both speech and writing, as well as the ability to understand and communicate in English. A B-category driver's license is required.

Previous experience with public authority operations, operational food control, and issuing official certificates is meritorious.

As a person, you need to be flexible, punctual, and efficient, and able to make well-founded decisions and take initiative. You have high personal maturity, the ability to reflect on your own strengths and areas for development, and the ability to see and contribute to the bigger picture. You are willing to make the decisions required in consultation with your colleagues and manager. You have good collaboration skills and help out without ego where needed. You keep up to date with the latest in your field and are happy to share your knowledge and experience. At the same time, you are open to learning from others. It is together with your colleagues that you succeed and develop. Conversations with business owners and contact with other stakeholders are also part of the job, requiring you to be clear, professional, and responsive in your communication. We will place great emphasis on personal suitability.
