At the intersection of technology, processes, and real-world impact, the future of Life Science is being shaped. At AFRY, you step into a growing segment where the focus is on understanding, developing, and improving processes within the Life Science industry, where every improvement can make a real difference. Here, you work closely with both client operations and internal development projects, in a role that moves freely between analysis, problem-solving, and practical improvement work. It is an environment where the process engineer does not just follow flows, but shapes them. We look forward to your application!
About the role
AFRY is a leading engineering and design company with operations in energy, industry, and infrastructure. Within the Life Science segment, the team currently works exclusively with clients in pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and medical technology, focusing on developing safe, efficient, and sustainable processes. This segment brings together experts across the entire lifecycle of industrial processes, from early studies and process design to production, quality, and improvement of existing facilities. AFRY works closely with its clients to optimize productivity, ensure high product quality, and contribute to more resource-efficient and sustainable solutions within the Life Science industry. With a dedicated team of Life Science engineers, AFRY supports clients throughout the production chain in pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and medical technology. The focus is on combining technical expertise with an understanding of high demands for quality, traceability, and regulatory compliance.
In Uppsala, the team is growing, and more process engineers are being recruited for a consultancy business where assignments vary in length, complexity, and technical focus. The role involves moving between different environments within the Life Science industry, where you quickly become part of the client's organization and work closely with production, quality, and technology. What the assignments have in common is the proximity to real processes, where analysis, problem-solving, and improvement work take place directly in the operations, rather than remotely. The work is often cross-functional and involves close collaboration with several parts of the organization. One day you might work on analyzing and understanding deviations in a process, and the next day participate in improvement work related to flows, equipment, or working methods. The role requires the ability to quickly get up to speed with new systems, environments, and working methods, while contributing structure, technical understanding, and an analytical approach. The consultancy role also implies a high degree of variation, where you gradually build experience from different types of operations within Life Science.
Parallel to client assignments, there are also internal AFRY projects where processes and solutions are developed for later implementation with clients. Here, you work more conceptually and development-driven, often in teams, with a focus on improving and optimizing future process solutions.
The section is characterized by strong cohesion and a flat culture where competence is shared generously. Although consultants are often located at client sites, there is a clear sense of community, with regular meetings, social events, and a climate where there are always colleagues to bounce technical questions and challenges off of.
This is a consultancy assignment, which means you will be employed by Academic Work and work as a consultant at AFRY. The assignment will be full-time and long-term. The goal of the collaboration is that you will eventually be hired directly by AFRY, provided all parties are satisfied with the collaboration.
What we offer
- A role in a new and growing Life Science segment within AFRY
- Variation between client assignments and internal development projects
- Proximity to technical processes in pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and medical technology
- A strong team spirit with a high degree of collaboration and knowledge sharing
- Continuous competence development through training and technical networks
Responsibilities
As a process engineer, you work broadly with understanding, analyzing, and improving processes within the Life Science industry. The role is varied, and you can work both close to the client's operations and in internal AFRY projects that are further developed into future client solutions. Among other things, you will:
- Analyze and optimize processes to improve quality, efficiency, and robustness
- Work with deviation investigations, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis
- Contribute to improvement work related to processes, flows, and working methods
- Specify requirements and evaluate equipment and technical solutions
- Participate in the development and documentation of processes and working methods
- Work cross-functionally with production, quality, and technology
- Participate in both client assignments and internal development initiatives within AFRY
We are looking for you who
- Have a university education in e.g., mechanical engineering, chemistry, biotechnology, medical technology, or similar
- Have experience from Life Science, e.g., production, laboratory environment, quality, or similar technical roles
- Have a strong technical interest and thrive in environments where you get to understand how processes work in practice
- Have good computer skills and understanding of technical flows
- Speak and write fluently in Swedish and English as this is required to perform the work
It is meritorious, but not a requirement, if you have
- Experience in process development, improvement work, or Lean
- Worked in GMP-regulated operations
In the role of a consultant, it is particularly important that you have the ability to quickly get up to speed in new environments and build trust in different organizations. You are curious, responsible, and thrive in a daily routine where you switch between analysis and more practical, operationally close work. Furthermore, you are structured and quality-conscious, with a good ability to independently drive your work forward even in new contexts. You find it easy to collaborate with different types of people and functions, and thrive in the role as a flexible and solution-oriented team player in different teams and constellations.
