About the Operational Area
The operational area for special schools currently comprises just over 650 employees. This area covers all of the agency's regional and national special schools, ten in total from Umeå to Lund. In addition to the schools, the operational area includes a school operations unit, a quality and secretariat unit, management support, and a central student health unit.
The school operations unit is responsible for coordinating support staff for our special schools as well as sign language interpreting and currently has approximately 12 employees. Other operational areas within SPSM also receive support in sign language interpreting.
As the agency is located in large parts of the country, we use digital platforms for work and remote meetings.
Are you a Sign Language Interpreter with high competence?

We are looking for an additional sign language interpreter to be based at Manilla School in Stockholm. Manilla School is a bilingual special school in a sign language environment where sign language is the common language among both students and staff. You will be part of Manilla School's and SPSM's team of interpreters who jointly contribute to the development of interpreting services.
Our mission is to provide deaf students and students with hearing impairments with an education equivalent to that given in primary school/adapted primary school, according to the special school curriculum. Manilla School has approximately 75 students and is a multicultural school with students from various countries and cultures. We communicate in Swedish Sign Language as well as spoken and written Swedish. We also offer sign language courses for hearing children and young people whose parents are deaf or have a hearing impairment.

Job Responsibilities
As a sign language interpreter for Manilla School's operations, the work includes interpreting for both students and staff in various situations. For students, this may include lessons, development meetings, study visits, and cultural events. Interpreting also takes place during breaks, in after-school care activities, in student council work, and during joint activities. For staff, it may involve teaching, meetings, conferences, and further education. Information to students and staff on how to use interpreters is also included. Some administrative work may also occur.
Qualifications
We are looking for you who have:
Education:
- Interpreter training prescribed by the Institute for Interpreters and Translators with a passing grade.
Work Experience:
- At least 1 year of recent experience working as a sign language interpreter. We will conduct a short interpreting test to assess sign language and reading skills.
- Experience as a deaf-blind interpreter.
It is an advantage if you are authorized by the National Audit Office (Kammarkollegiet) and have further education in the field of interpreting.
It is also an advantage if you have:
- Experience interpreting in school-related situations and situations involving children and young people.
- Experience with pedagogical language use.
- Experience with formal language use.
- Experience with remote interpreting via digital platforms such as Zoom.
- Experience with administrative support systems and other digital tools.
