Political Editor-in-Chief for Gotlands Folkblad
NTM Media ABStockholms län, Stockholm
Previous experience is desired
We are Gotland's local newspaper and work to provide our audience with the best coverage of the island. With our titles Helagotland, Gotlands Allehanda, and Gotlands Tidningar, we reach almost all residents of Gotland every week, year-round.
Here, we work at a high pace to create news-leading and innovative coverage of our area every day. You are offered the opportunity to work in a creative environment and help shape public opinion on socially important issues and capture local buzz.
We want to be first and best in breaking news situations while simultaneously offering our audience in-depth features, opinions, and touching stories. We always put the reader, viewer, or listener first and always base our work on the needs we can meet.
We are now looking for a Political Editor-in-Chief who is quick-witted, sharp with the pen, and confident in taking a place in the debate on the opinion page of Gotlands Folkblad (independent social democratic).
About the role
As Political Editor-in-Chief, you are responsible for producing texts for the opinion page of Gotlands Folkblad in Gotlands Tidningar as well as on Helagotland. You also help develop the newspaper's opinion material in accordance with our journalistic ambition. You work close to the news flow and find new creative ways to reach the readers. The role is both idea-driven and operational: you make independent journalistic decisions in consultation with the responsible publisher and are a clear voice in the debate.
The opinion page of Gotlands Folkblad is independent social democratic, and the role therefore means that you work with opinion journalism from a social democratic ideological starting point.
All publishing is based on the area we operate in and the people who live here. Therefore, we always prioritize local issues or highlight how major decisions in Sweden and the world affect people on Gotland.
Your main tasks
In the role, you publish and optimize your own opinion material for our digital channels as well as the print newspaper, and you switch effortlessly between quick analyses under time pressure and well-developed in-depth features.
You are full of ideas and curious and work purposefully to reach younger target groups and contribute to gender-equal and inclusive opinion journalism. You represent the newspaper externally when necessary – for example, at reader meetings, debates, or other public gatherings – and collaborate with the editorial team.
We believe you are a person who likes to move around in the local community and meet the people we write for. You are passionate about societal issues, local politics, and creating engaging opinion material for our readers.
The position also includes publishing external freelance writers for the opinion page.
We offer a dynamic and idea-rich environment where opinion journalism is prioritized and constantly developed. With us, you have ample space to shape content, test new formats, and drive development together with others. There is also the opportunity to be visible and make a real difference – our goal is for the opinion material to touch, engage, and put things into context for those who live and work in our coverage area.
Qualifications
We are looking for you who have a great commitment and interest in local journalism.
We assume that you are a skilled writer and have experience in opinion work.
You like to work in an event-driven everyday life, are creative, and come up with your own ideas.
About the employment
The degree of employment is 75 percent.
We apply collective agreements.
Start date 1/6 or as agreed.
We apply a probationary period of six months.
