to apply for the job
Do you want to lay the foundation for students' learning and development? We are now looking for an engaged special needs teacher at Viaskolan – a school where we work together to ensure every student succeeds, feels comfortable, and develops as much as possible.
Responsibilities
We are looking for an engaged special needs teacher for grades F-3 who wants to help shape the future of learning for our students in need of special support and adaptations. You will work in a flexible small teaching group with students requiring extra support, with the goal of creating a safe, structured, and accessible learning environment adapted to each student's prerequisites. The flexible teaching group is in its startup phase, which means you will have a central role in developing working methods, structures, and content. The student group primarily consists of students with autism, speech disorders, and other neuropsychiatric disabilities.
In a flexible special teaching group, we work with students who need a smaller context, a high degree of structure, and a conscious language-developing approach. The operation is flexible, meaning students participate based on need and are given the opportunity to gradually return to their regular class. Together with resource pedagogues and teachers, you design teaching and the school environment so that students are given the best possible conditions to succeed – both academically and socially.
As a special needs teacher, you are responsible for planning, implementing, and following up on teaching based on each student's individual needs. You work closely with class teachers, student health services, and guardians to create sustainable solutions that benefit the student's learning and development.
An important part of the assignment is to supervise and support resource pedagogues and teachers in their work with adaptations, interactions, and pedagogical strategies – both within and outside the flexible teaching group.
Your assignment includes conducting mappings, pedagogical investigations, and action plans.
About the workplace
The Child and Education Administration's main task is to offer a safe and stimulating learning environment where we equip children and young people for the future. We also work to promote access to cultural and leisure activities for all residents.
Viaskolan is a three-parallel F-6 school with approximately 540 students and about 70 employees. We are located in a quiet setting in one of Nynäshamn's residential areas. Viaskolan was inaugurated in 1905 and is the municipality's oldest school.
What we are looking for in you
To succeed in the role, you have/are:
- Licensed teacher with a special needs teacher degree
- Knowledge and experience working with students with autism, speech disorders, and/or NPD (Neuropsychiatric Disabilities)
- Competence in language-developing approaches and communicative adaptations
- Experience or interest in supervising colleagues
- Good ability to create structure, predictability, and security
- Knowledge of clarifying pedagogy and low-affective interaction
- Solution-focused with a strong relational approach
It is meritorious if you have:
- Experience working with multilingualism
- Knowledge of Legilexi and other mapping materials
Personal qualities we are looking for
We are looking for someone who is secure, structured, and flexible in their working method. You have a calm and stable approach and meet students with clarity, warmth, and low-affective interaction. You have a good ability to build relationships and create trust while also being able to set boundaries.
You are solution-focused and adapt your teaching based on the students' individual needs. You have good communicative skills and can explain, clarify, and adapt your language to the recipient.
You thrive in close collaboration with colleagues and have the ability to supervise and support others in a professional and attentive manner. You contribute to a positive work climate and see development and collaboration as a natural part of your assignment.
