About the Department

The Department of Overall Planning works on strategic planning and sustainability issues for the municipal administration. The Sector for Governance and Support works closely with the political leadership on the municipality's strategic development. We have a holistic perspective and coordinate issues affecting the entire municipal corporation.

The Department of Overall Planning consists of about twenty employees with various specialist competencies. Together, we work on long-term urban planning, sustainable development, and strategic issues on behalf of the municipal administration.

Job Responsibilities

As a Strategy Specialist in Urban Development, you will work on long-term and municipality-wide issues that are crucial for Gävle's development. You will develop, create, and coordinate strategies, analyses, and decision-making materials. The work takes place close to the political leadership and in collaboration with other sectors, municipal companies, and external actors.

In this role, you will:

Work on strategic planning issues related to land use, growth, and sustainable development
Produce analyses, investigations, and decision-making materials
Contribute to the development of comprehensive planning and long-term land supply
Coordinate and drive issues in the early stages of the urban development process
Balance social, ecological, and economic perspectives
Ensure that development aligns with political goals and priorities

You will work with a holistic perspective and identify connections between various development issues.

Qualifications

You have:

A university degree, for example as an urban planner, land surveyor, land development engineer, or other education deemed relevant by the employer
Work experience in urban planning or a related field
Several years of experience in project work as a project manager or deputy project manager
Good ability to express yourself well in speech and writing and adapt your communication to the audience

It is an advantage if you have:

A good understanding of municipal planning and decision-making processes
Experience with project methodologies, such as XLPM
