The Department of Information Technology holds a leading position in both research and education at all levels. We are currently Uppsala University's third largest department, with over 350 employees, including 120 teachers and 120 doctoral students. Approximately 5,000 undergraduate students take one or more courses at the department each year. More information about us can be found on the Department of Information Technology's website.
We are now seeking up to 2 teaching assistants (amanuens) to support the course "Introduction to Computers" at Campus Gotland.
Responsibilities
Participate in teaching within the framework of "Introduction to Computers," which is part of several programs' introductory courses in the autumn of 2026. Teaching participation includes, for example, tutoring in computer labs, answering student questions, and grading assignments. Applications are received via Uppsala University's recruitment system. Please note that all tutoring is planned to be conducted on campus.
Qualification Requirements
To be employed as a teaching assistant, you must be admitted to a program at the first cycle (undergraduate) or second cycle (master's) level. Employment as a teaching assistant is regulated by Chapter 5 of the Higher Education Ordinance. The applicant must demonstrate good academic results, particularly in the subject area of the course they will assist with, as well as very good English skills in both speech and writing.
Desirable/Additional Merits
Previous experience participating in teaching relevant courses at the university level is particularly meritorious. Experience with relevant IT systems (Studium) is desirable, as is good knowledge of Uppsala University's organization. Strongly meritorious is previous experience as a tutor for "Introduction to Computers."
It is also strongly meritorious to:
- have completed the majority of the first year of your study program.
- be interested in constructively helping others understand things they perceive as unclear or difficult.
- be punctual regarding tutoring and grading of submitted assignments.
Application Procedure
The application must include a letter stating which campus you are studying at (Uppsala or Gotland), the applicant's previous experience in teaching, language, and knowledge (e.g., transcripts). The application must also specify how the applicant meets the tutor profile requirements. A registration certificate must also be attached to the application.
About the Employment
The employment is fixed-term according to Chapter 5, Section 12 of the Higher Education Ordinance, until November 15, 2026. The extent is 6%. Start date: August 17, 2026, or by agreement. Location: Visby.
