The Acute Orthopedic Department is part of the Surgical Area of Responsibility (VO Surgery) and is one of the largest departments at Kristianstad Central Hospital (CSK). We operate outpatient clinics for surgery, vascular, upper/lower gastro, breast/plastic surgery patients, as well as an oncology treatment unit. Other departments within our area include the Acute Surgery Department (KAVA), Surgery Department, Urology and Vascular Department, and the Gynecology, Surgery, and ENT Department. We maintain active collaboration between departments with excellent development opportunities within the specialties.

The orthopedic activities at Kristianstad Central Hospital include acute surgeries, outpatient clinics, and an acute care ward. Elective orthopedic activities are conducted at the hospital in Hässleholm. Our orthopedic area of responsibility is a university hospital unit.

The Acute Orthopedic Department is at the forefront of care development and patient care. The work on our department is varied, with no two days alike. Patients arrive with various conditions affecting the musculoskeletal system. Hip fractures are our largest patient group, but we also treat amputations, infections, chronic wounds, conditions resulting from malignancy, shoulder surgeries, ankle and pelvic fractures, spinal surgeries, and various pain conditions. Beyond our large patient volume, our patients are often multimorbid, meaning staff gain broader experience and knowledge in various conditions—both chronic and acute. You will not only treat fractures and relieve pain; often, the reason for admission is only a fraction of the patient's care needs. Here, we care for the whole patient, implying a wide variation in care needs. As a nurse with us, you will develop broad knowledge in medical and surgery-related conditions.

In an interdisciplinary team, you work together with the patient and other professionals to create the best conditions for person-centered care. We put the patient in focus and strive to reduce the number of patients per nurse to make this possible. Furthermore, competence development and education are prioritized.

RESPONSIBILITIES

We are facing an exciting development phase and are now recruiting four new nurses to open our third team. This is a fantastic opportunity to be involved from the start in building a new team and contributing to shaping both working methods and community spirit. We are looking for someone who enjoys working in a team and wants to contribute to a good work environment where we all feel job satisfaction and community. We welcome both those new to the role and those who have worked for some time and gathered valuable experience in the profession.

You will be responsible for nursing duties on an operating acute care ward. Many patients treated with us also have internal medical conditions, which means you will develop broad competence. In addition to direct patient care, all employees participate in developing and improving the nursing care of our patients.

During the day, there is staff dedicated to collaboration with the municipality via "My Plans" (Mina planer), Collaboration at Discharge (SVU), as well as operational staff managing bed occupancy. Additionally, there is access to support from dietitians, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and counselors in your daily work. The department also has a pharmacist to facilitate medication management and support with medication questions.

Weekend duty is included, two out of five weekends. The department uses a wish-list scheduling system.

QUALIFICATIONS

Regarding formal requirements, you must be a licensed nurse with the authority to practice within the Swedish healthcare system. Language skills in Swedish corresponding to at least level C1 according to the Council of Europe's scale are required.
