Detainee Officer – Hourly Position in Sundsvall
Are you ready for a significant challenge? The Swedish Police Authority is Sweden's largest agency with approximately 40,700 employees nationwide. With us, you have the opportunity to contribute to the Police's mission – to increase safety and reduce crime in society.
Police District Västernorrland is one of the districts in the North region, covering seven municipalities. The district is divided into three local police areas: Medelpad, Norra Ångermanland, and Södra Ångermanland. At the district level, there are sections for investigations, serious crimes, specially vulnerable victims, on-call preliminary investigation leadership, surveillance, and economic crime, as well as station command activities.
Local Police Area Medelpad is part of Police District Västernorrland and includes operations in intervention, crime prevention, investigation groups, as well as support and services.
We are looking for you
We are now looking for someone interested in working on an hourly basis as a Detainee Officer based in Sundsvall. As an hourly employee with us, you will receive an intermittent employment contract. This means you are employed for each individual shift and receive hourly compensation. The number of hours worked varies per person and over time.
Job Responsibilities
Your main assignment will be to work in our detention facility by receiving and handling persons who are deprived of their liberty and serving as their primary contact during their time in the detention area. Many are detained for the purpose of investigating crimes, but it can also involve shorter detentions due to, for example, intoxication. You may work with simpler investigative measures in the detention area as well as other common administrative tasks such as transcribing interrogations and other administrative tasks within seizure management.
In addition to the above, you may also perform other tasks within internal and external services as needed, such as work in the reception, seizure management, and taking reports. Work at other locations within the county may occur.
The work pace varies depending on the tasks, and the work can be physically demanding, requiring you to be in good health.
Qualifications
This is an opportunity for you who have:
- Upper secondary school diploma or equivalent education, or education combined with work experience deemed relevant by the employer.
- Class B driver's license (for manual transmission vehicles).
- Good computer skills.
- Good ability to express yourself in Swedish, both spoken and written.
- Good understanding of the English language and the ability to express yourself well in English.
It is an asset if you also have:
- Are a police student or have similar education deemed relevant by the employer.
- Current work experience of meeting people in vulnerable and/or problematic situations.
- Current experience working with persons deprived of liberty (e.g., as a detainee officer, in prison services, HVB/SiS homes, security guard, or other relevant experience).
- Basic understanding of legal terms and confidentiality acquired through education or work experience.
- Other language skills besides Swedish or English that are relevant for the profession.
Personal Attributes
In the role of Detainee Officer, you will meet many different types of people in vulnerable situations, which requires empathy. We expect you to have a service-oriented attitude and be approachable. Since the work pace varies, a flexible approach is required. You are responsible, have good teamwork skills, and relate to others in an attentive and smooth manner.
As a person, you are confident, act with maturity and integrity. In stressful situations, you can act calmly, controlled, and professionally. You apply a high level of security awareness, meaning you are reliable in situations where physical violence may occur. We will place great importance on personal attributes.
