Police Area Västernorrland is one of the police areas in the North region. The geographical area covers seven municipalities.
Police Area Västernorrland is divided into three local police areas: Medelpad, Norra Ångermanland, and Södra Ångermanland. At the police area level, there is an investigation section, a serious crime section, a section for particularly vulnerable crime victims, a duty investigation leadership, a surveillance section, a criminal economy section, and station command activities. Furthermore, there is a police area office.
Local Police Area Medelpad is part of Police Area Västernorrland. Within the local police area, there are intervention and crime prevention activities, investigation groups, as well as support and services.
We are now looking for detention officers with a location in Sundsvall.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Your main assignment will be to work in our detention facility by receiving and handling persons who are deprived of their liberty and being their primary contact during their time in the detention facility. Many are deprived of liberty for the purpose of investigating crimes, but it can also involve shorter detentions due to, for example, intoxication. You may work with simpler investigative measures in the detention facility as well as other common administrative tasks such as transcribing interrogations and other administrative tasks within seizure handling.
In addition to the above tasks, you may also, if needed, perform other tasks within internal and external services, such as work in the reception, seizure handling, and registration of reports, among others. Work at another location within the county may occur.
The work pace varies depending on the tasks, and the work can be physically demanding, which requires that you are in good health.
QUALIFICATIONS
This is an opportunity for you who have:
- Upper secondary school diploma or equivalent education, or education in combination with work experience that the employer deems relevant.
- Current work experience of working with and treating people in vulnerable and/or problematic situations that the employer deems relevant.
- Class B driver's license (for manual transmission vehicles).
- Good computer skills.
- Good ability to express yourself in Swedish, both orally and in writing.
- Good understanding of the English language and the ability to express yourself well in English.
It is an asset for the position if you also have:
- Current work experience of working with persons deprived of liberty, such as detention officers, within the prison service, HVB/SiS homes, as security guards, or other experience that the employer deems relevant.
- At least 1 year of current work experience of working with and treating people in vulnerable and/or problematic situations that the employer deems relevant.
- Basic understanding of legal terms and confidentiality acquired through education or work experience.
- Other language skills beyond Swedish or English that the employer deems relevant where you can use the language in your professional practice.
PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES
In the role of a detention officer, you will meet many different types of people in vulnerable situations, which places demands on your empathetic ability. We also see that you have a service-oriented approach and are accommodating as a person. Since the work pace varies and tasks can differ, it is required that you have a flexible approach. Furthermore, you are responsible and have good teamwork skills, and relate to others in an attentive and smooth manner.
As a person, you are confident in yourself and act with maturity and integrity. In stressful situations, you can act calmly, controlled, and professionally. You apply a high level of security thinking, which means that you are reliable in situations where physical violence may occur.
We will place great importance on personal attributes.
