The Community Building Administration's Environmental Protection Unit is looking for a temporary environmental inspector focusing on environmental protection supervision.

About Us

You will be part of a team of eight people within the Environmental Protection Unit. We are now looking for a colleague to work with us during the regular environmental inspector's parental leave.

In Solna, a lot is happening as the city continues to develop while legislation changes and new challenges in supervision arise. We work according to the national strategy for environmental code supervision. Important areas of work include supervision of B-, C-, and U-operations. We have many contaminated areas in the municipality that generate event-driven supervision while we also work with self-initiated supervision according to a developed action plan. We also place great emphasis on supervision of waste and stormwater management. The unit also conducts regular supervision of infrastructure and development projects regarding their environmental impact and disturbances to the surroundings.

We shape the unit's goals, priorities, and working methods together. We place great emphasis on having good routines and support systems to create conditions for both effective work and continuous development of our supervision. The unit's manager is also responsible for the environmental and climate unit where ecologists, environmental specialists, water strategists, and environmental strategists work. The collaboration between our two units is close and well-established, which has strengthened competence exchange and facilitated qualified assessments in supervision work.

What Does the Job Entail?

In the role of environmental inspector with us, you will have a varied and meaningful job where you contribute to sustainable development in Solna. You will primarily work with processing various types of waste cases, such as applications for exemptions from sorting requirements, as well as conducting inspections at various operations.

An important part of the assignment is to develop our working methods. You will develop processing routines, checklists, templates, and decision-making documents for waste cases, so that together we create an efficient and legally secure processing.

The work also involves supervision of environmentally hazardous activities, mainly U-operations. If you have experience in processing cases related to contaminated land, you may also work with these issues. Complaints and referrals are distributed among the processors in the unit.

Who Are We Looking For?

We believe that you have had a shorter employment as an environmental inspector and therefore have previous experience of authority exercise. Perhaps you have experience in processing waste cases, supervision of environmentally hazardous activities, and/or contaminated land.

We are looking for someone who:

• Has a university degree as an environmental and health inspector or other equivalent education.
• Has knowledge of the Environmental Code and the Administrative Procedure Act.
• Has professional experience in authority exercise.
• Finds supervision in the waste area exciting and developing.
• Enjoys reading up on legislation, case law, developing checklists, routines, templates, and decision-making documents.
• Has good knowledge of Swedish.

It is meritorious if you have previous professional experience in:

• Processing and supervision of cases regarding waste.
• Processing of cases regarding contaminated areas.
• Supervision of environmentally hazardous activities, e.g., vehicle workshops and/or car washes.

We are looking for someone who is responsible, independently drives their work forward, and can adapt planning based on potentially changing conditions. You have good collaborative skills and focus on the unit's common results. You are willing to help within all areas of the unit's work regardless of what cases come in.

As an inspector, good pedagogical ability and a professional attitude are needed. Therefore, we are looking for someone who is confident, clear, and communicative. You take the initiative to carry out and participate in supervision efforts, projects, and operational development and enjoy being out in the field conducting inspections.
