Description

The needle exchange program started in 2017 through the infectious disease clinics in the Västra Götaland region and is now available in Gothenburg, Skövde, NU Healthcare, and Borås.

The program aims to reduce the spread of infections and motivate drug-free living. The clinic operates as a drop-in service Monday to Friday from 9 AM to 4 PM for patients over 18 years old who inject drugs and are registered in the region. We offer testing for HIV and hepatitis, vaccinations against hepatitis A and B, treatment for hepatitis C and infections, distribution of naloxone, and supportive counseling. The work is conducted in collaboration with psychiatry, midwives, and infectious disease specialists.

The infectious disease clinic receives patients with acute and planned infectious diseases, such as hepatitis B and C, HIV, tuberculosis, and immunodeficiency diseases. During the day, the clinic also functions as an emergency department for infectious patients. There is also a vaccination clinic, telephone advice for the public and healthcare centers, and close collaboration with infection control, healthcare hygiene, and the infectious disease department.

Job Responsibilities

As a nurse in the needle exchange program and infectious disease clinic, you will work independently but in close collaboration with doctors, medical secretaries, and nursing colleagues. The work is varied and includes tasks such as testing, vaccinations, patient counseling, and clinic work. An infection control approach is an integral part of the work, and you will also provide information and guidance to patients, staff, and students.

Qualifications

We are looking for a licensed nurse. Experience working with patients with substance use disorders or in psychiatry is an advantage. You will be employed in the needle exchange program but will also work daily in the infectious disease clinic. We seek someone who is flexible, responsible, and has a positive attitude, seeing the equal value of all individuals as a given. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

We conduct interviews on an ongoing basis during the application period.

The position includes rotation between the needle exchange program/infectious disease clinic and the infectious disease department.

In the event of recruiting a nurse with foreign qualifications/specialist certificates, the position will be preceded by a process to meet the requirements for Swedish qualifications/specialist certificates.
