Do you want to work in a broad field of operations that includes both geriatrics and internal medicine? Being a part of an operational area gives us great opportunities for professional development and efficient patient flows.
Our ambition moving forward is to leverage each other's expertise through training and collaboration between our areas of geriatrics and internal medicine.
Our operational area includes geriatric and internal medicine inpatient and outpatient care, as well as palliative inpatient care and ASIH. In our clinics, we investigate and treat common major diseases such as cognitive impairment, osteoporosis, diabetes, stroke, and heart diseases. Our clinics also include a Diagnostic Center where patients with unknown primary tumors or nonspecific cancer symptoms are investigated, as well as a clinic for multimorbid elderly patients.
Specialist doctor/assistant chief physician/chief physician for Geriatrics at Södertälje Hospital:
The Geriatrics department at Södertälje Hospital is in an exciting phase of development with an expanded geriatric mission. Our three geriatric wards have recently moved to new, fine facilities with single rooms. At Södertälje Hospital, we see the care of the elderly as one of our most important profile areas, and we aim to be at the forefront of the development of future elderly care.
Our geriatric wards focus on acute geriatrics (GAVA), rehabilitation, and care for cognitive impairment. Within the geriatric outpatient clinic, we offer specialized care for cognitive impairment, osteoporosis, and for frail elderly patients with multiple illnesses. Our operational area also includes a department for specialized palliative care and ASIH.
We have a geriatric consultant in the emergency department to improve the assessment of frail multimorbid elderly patients, contribute to shorter waiting times, and facilitate direct admission to the geriatric inpatient ward when needed. We are currently involved in several exciting improvement and collaboration projects, including geriatric/palliative rounds in home care and at certain nursing and care homes.
You will have a varied job, mostly as the responsible specialist/chief physician for inpatients in the ward. At GAVA, you will be responsible for the assessment, initial investigation, and planning of geriatric patients who are transferred here early from the emergency department, from an ambulance, or directly from home. Placement in outpatient care may also be relevant, including in the Palliative department/ASIH after introduction/supervision. Clinical supervision is included in the assignment.
