Case Officer for the Swedish Customs Revenue Department

The operational activities of the Swedish Customs are divided into four departments: control, revenue, intelligence, and customs crime.

The Revenue Department has a broad mandate within three operational areas: permits, post-control, and revenue monitoring.

The operational work of the Revenue Department is carried out within four units with flexible groups that work with the entire mission of the Swedish Customs but are specialized according to the needs of the operations.

We are now looking for a case officer for the revenue department's area of permits, in the eastern region, based in Stockholm.

About the position

The work as a case officer involves reviewing and investigating permit applications in various areas and communicating the decision to the applicant. In addition to granting permits, the work involves monitoring already issued permits and inquiries from other countries. This often entails ongoing dialogue with the company, and in some cases, company visits. You then assess the documentation based on applicable legislation and present the case to your supervisor before a decision is made. As a case officer, you work independently but also in a team.

The case management involves constantly new questions and situations, which means that you as a case officer need to be both flexible and solution-oriented. For example, it is also part of the case officer's job to monitor and develop internal routines and improve work methods. Case management is performed in several systems.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Completed high school education with passing grades in Mathematics B/2, English B/6, and Swedish B/2 or equivalent, as well as relevant work experience of at least 3 years in public or customs-related operations
  • and/or
  • Completed relevant Qualified Vocational Education (KY) or at least 60 credits/90 higher education credits in social sciences, freight/logistics, law, or economics, as well as relevant experience in case management or case administration from another public sector, or similar tasks in the private sector

You should also have:

  • Good ability to formulate and draft investigative decisions or other documents
  • Good ability to express yourself in Swedish, both orally and in writing
  • Good experience working with legislation
  • Basic knowledge of MS Office and Excel

It is meritorious if you have:

  • At least one year of current experience from another government authority or public administration
  • Academic qualifications in areas such as economics, law, social sciences, or political science
  • At least one year of current experience in permit granting and/or monitoring compliance with permit conditions
  • Experience working in operations that deal with customs handling
  • Experience in customer service and close teamwork

Employment and training

During your first six months as an employee, you will undergo basic training for the Revenue Department lasting about 10 weeks. The training will primarily be conducted at your place of employment as distance learning. There may be in-person meetings that can take place at another location, which may involve some travel and overnight stays.

Permanent employment starting with a 6-month probationary period and individual salary setting applies.
