Job Description

As an automation engineer at AFRY, you will work with programming, configuration, and commissioning of control systems within industrial projects. The role involves developing solutions in PLC and SCADA systems, primarily in Siemens TIA Portal and ABB 800xA, as well as participating in testing and commissioning. You will be an important part of the project team and responsible for the automation aspect, which requires close collaboration with electrical designers and project managers. The work is primarily conducted at AFRY's office in Kalmar or on-site with clients, with some opportunity for remote work.

We expect you to drive the programming work from idea to finished solution and contribute your expertise to ensure that the project delivers according to requirements and timelines. You will receive support from your manager and colleagues, as well as access to AFRY's extensive network of specialists. In the long term, there are good development opportunities – for example, to deepen your knowledge in advanced programming, take on the role of system engineer or project manager, and develop as a consultant with a holistic perspective in client assignments.

Some assignments may require security clearance, which means that the role may involve security-classified projects in the future.

Qualifications

To succeed in the role of automation engineer, you need to have a problem-solving approach where you can quickly identify causes of issues in complex control systems, analyze different solution alternatives, and choose the most effective way forward. You are business-minded and structured, which means you plan and organize your work with order in code and documentation, ensuring that the project adheres to agreed requirements, timelines, and budgets. The role also requires you to be ambitious – you take responsibility for driving tasks forward, actively seek improvements, and keep yourself updated on new technology. Finally, it is important that you are a team player who collaborates closely with colleagues and clients, shares knowledge, and contributes to a positive work environment.

Requirements

• Experience in programming within industry (manufacturing/process/food) as well as commissioning and troubleshooting.
• At least a vocational education in automation or equivalent experience
• System knowledge: Siemens TIA Portal and/or ABB 800xA
• Swedish and English at a professional level in both spoken and written form

Meritorious

• Knowledge of HMI/SCADA systems
• System knowledge: ABB SattLine, AVEVA System Platform, etc.
• Knowledge/experience in electrical design
