Gravekeeper Wanted for the Cemetery Administration in Southeast Jämtland Parish

The Cemetery Administration in Southeast Jämtland Parish manages 33 cemeteries and burial sites. Additionally, we have three closed burial sites that are part of the administration. Our cemeteries hold our shared cultural heritage with many ties back in time.

The staff of the Cemetery Administration consists of 30 full-time gravekeepers, a large number of seasonal cemetery workers, three foremen, two administrators, and one cemetery manager. The operations are governed by the parish church council with a cemetery committee.

Description

In the Eastern area, the congregations include Hällesjö-Håsjö, Stugun, Borgvattnet, Ragunda, and Fors. Here, 7 full-time gravekeepers are employed.

We are now seeking a full-time gravekeeper who, together with a current caretaker, will be responsible for Stugun, Borgvattnet, and Köttsjön. Temporary work at other locations within the parish may occur. The place of employment is Stugun, where you will be based. In 2026, a new caretaker building will be constructed in Stugun.

Job Responsibilities

The work includes both internal and external duties. Internal duties involve participation in services and church activities (baptism, wedding, burial), including practical preparations and management of sound and light. We also perform cleaning in churches and other facilities.

Some of the most common tasks in external duties include planting and caring for plants, watering, weeding, hedge trimming, tree pruning, trimming, lawn mowing, and leaf collection. In winter, we clear snow, shovel by hand to some extent, and combat slippery conditions. Property maintenance indoors during winter and outdoors mainly during the growing season. Work with tractors, grave digging with mini-excavators, and driving other gardening machines is included. We also perform service and minor repairs on our machines.

In your work in the church and cemetery, you will meet visitors daily who may need everything from practical help, guidance on cemetery-related questions, to a listening ear. You will be the face of the cemetery administration, and being able to meet visitors with dignity and empathy is seen as fundamental prerequisites for the job. You will work both independently and together with other cemetery workers and gravekeepers. You will consider the whole and assist others when needed. We use modern tools, but the work is physically demanding. Heavy lifting is involved. We work outdoors regardless of the weather. Weekend work and irregular hours may occur.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who has experience in property maintenance and minor repairs. Has experience working with smaller gardening machines and tractors and can perform service and maintenance on our machines. Familiarity with digital communication using email, Microsoft Teams, and smartphones is necessary for the position. Good knowledge of Swedish in both spoken and written form is required. Shares the fundamental values of the Church of Sweden.

We place great emphasis on personal suitability and the ability to collaborate with others. To be considered for the position, good social competence and a positive attitude towards both colleagues and visitors in churches and cemeteries are required. You need to be service-oriented, adaptable to the various tasks to be performed, and have good physical fitness and condition.

A BE driver's license is an advantage, as well as relevant training and various types of certification (chainsaw license, hot work, etc.).
