Junior Doctor (Medical Student) Wanted for Summer Position at the Cardiology Clinic, Danderyd Hospital

We are looking for you who will have completed the 9th-10th semester of the medical program by summer and wish to gain a broad perspective and experience in various aspects of healthcare before becoming a licensed physician.

You will be placed in one of the Cardiology Clinic's departments, which has various focuses within heart failure, ischemia, and arrhythmia. Our patient group consists of adults of all ages, which means a wide variety of medical treatment and care. Patients are typically cared for an average of 2.5 – 5 days before discharge.

We offer you a workplace at one of Sweden's leading and largest cardiology clinics. The position includes 25% daytime work as a junior doctor and 75% with regular nursing duties at night during the summer weeks 26-33. An introduction of two weeks with mandatory attendance will take place during weeks 24-25, and possibly some introductory moments will also occur earlier in the spring. Our plan is for you to work all these weeks as you fill a vacation slot.

At night (14 shifts), you will, together with a nursing assistant, have care responsibilities for about 8 patients. An experienced nurse will be available on the ward for advice and support, as well as a phone number to the cardiology on-call service. Medical assessments and suggestions for medication prescriptions are always discussed with the cardiology on-call service, which is available around the clock at the clinic. During the day (10 shifts), you will work as a junior doctor in a team with an experienced consultant, junior doctors, and other staff.

Responsibilities:

At night, your duties will include nursing tasks such as reviewing ECG/heart monitoring, blood sampling, handling of IV catheters, medication administration, nursing responsibilities/documentation. During daytime shifts, you will work as a junior doctor on the same ward with tasks such as ward rounds, admissions and discharges, referral management, and documentation.

Employment Type:

General fixed-term employment includes night and weekend shifts.

Qualifications:

Minimum completion of T9-T10 medical program and the ability to work the entire summer according to the schedule including introduction. Experience in practice and/or work in Swedish healthcare is an advantage.

Personal Qualities:

We are looking for someone who feels secure in themselves and wants to develop as a person, within their own and others' professions, cardiology, and nursing. You have good collaboration skills as we work in teams and across clinical boundaries. You are flexible, practically quick to learn, open-minded, responsible, and positive in your outlook, and have an interest in being involved in the entire care chain surrounding the patient. We place great importance on personal suitability and would like you to have previous care experience within our healthcare system.
