GIL has coordinated personal assistance since 1989. The cooperative has roots in the Independent Living movement, which is based on the principle that individuals with disabilities know best how they want to live their lives. Typically, the person receiving assistance is the closest supervisor of the assistants, or a person with special knowledge about the individual is appointed.

As a personal assistant, you support a person with a disability to live the life they want to live. To attract and retain competent and satisfied assistants, we invest in training and events. We believe that development and meeting others lead to motivated and secure assistants who enjoy and find it rewarding to work with us.

Our 24-year-old son needs more male personal assistants who want to work 3-4 shifts per week.

The shifts are usually 8-9 hours long and never night shifts. The workplace is located near Marklandsgatan, Gothenburg.

Great patience, pedagogical ability, and a warm heart are needed for the job. Many assistants have stayed for several years, so we know it is a good and rewarding job for the right person.

Our son is a musical omnivore and would love to listen a bit more to classical, jazz, and world music. He has a great interest in animals and birds. His body has many limitations, and your job is to help him with almost everything practical. You must be comfortable with both feeding and personal hygiene. He swims daily for exercise, so you must be able to swim in a pool often.

He has autism and enjoys learning new facts at his own level. Every day he and the assistant look for facts about something, and then he needs some help writing a summary of 10-15 sentences. You must be able to spell really well in at least Swedish or English; there is no time to Google. Good knowledge of Spanish is a plus, but if you have something else you are passionate about, there are good chances that our son will also become interested.

He has a large vocabulary and talks a lot, but can still be a challenge to understand since he likes to speak in riddles and does not always think like us neurotypicals. The best assistants always have their “detective brain” on and enjoy building on his word games. When we find assistants who understand his humor, laughter and singing can be heard.

This is a smoke-free workplace.

We are looking for two positions at 80% and 60%. Salary according to agreement and additional compensation for evenings and weekends.

Interviews are conducted continuously during the application period, and training can begin as soon as possible.
