Healthcare Assistant for the Operating Department
We are looking for a healthcare assistant for our operating department within the Hand and Plastic Surgery Clinic in Umeå.
Region Västerbotten works to ensure that good health and sustainable development strengthen each other. We take responsibility for equitable welfare and for ensuring that research and innovation yield results.
The Hand and Plastic Surgery Clinic at Norrland University Hospital provides highly specialized hand and plastic surgery for patients in the northern region. The clinic offers national highly specialized care in hand surgery concerning plexus brachialis injuries and dysmelia. Approximately 100 employees from various professions work within the clinic. We have a care department, a reception, an operating department, a rehabilitation department, and a department for medical documentation.
The operating department consists of healthcare assistants, operating room nurses, and surgical planners. We are about 19 colleagues who, together with others in the clinic, work to provide high-quality care. Within the operating department, we value a good working environment, and we work with “after action review” to develop our work and create good collaboration. We have begun a renovation of our premises and will soon have completely new facilities tailored to our operations.
The department operates within a small, well-functioning clinic, where communication and decision-making paths are short. There is a positive atmosphere within the clinic where employees are engaged and eager to contribute to good care and a positive work environment. With us, you will work in our newly renovated, state-of-the-art operating facilities that focus on work environment, patient safety, and surgical quality.
JOB DESCRIPTION
As a healthcare assistant with us, you contribute knowledge and commitment that makes people feel safe.
In your role as a healthcare assistant, you are an important part of an operating team where you work closely with the operating room nurse, anesthetist nurse, and surgeon. Your assignment is varied and educational, with tasks that span the entire surgical process from preparation to completion.
You prepare and set up the operating room before each procedure and participate in organizing the room after the operation is completed. During the procedure, you work closely with the operating room nurse and assist with instrument handling and practical tasks. You are involved in creating a safe environment for the patient and contributing to a smooth flow in the surgical operations. Your tasks also include handling and controlling certain medical technical equipment. With us, you will also have the opportunity to mentor students - an important part of our mission as a university hospital.
We will develop an individual introduction plan together with you so that you can feel secure in starting and have a good opportunity to learn the work with us.
The work is daytime Monday to Friday, and we do not work weekends. On-call duty is included for a number of shifts per month from Monday to Thursday until 9:15 PM.
QUALIFICATIONS
We are looking for someone who is a trained healthcare assistant, preferably with experience in operating rooms or other emergency care. It is an advantage if you have a specialist course in surgery, anesthesia, and intensive care. You have a good technical understanding and see it as an exciting challenge to utilize our technical aids.
We see that you are a team player who understands the importance of being part of a team while also having the ability to work independently and take initiative regarding your own responsibilities. You have the ability to see what needs to be done and find solutions in challenging situations that may arise in your work. You work in a structured and meticulous manner, with an eye for details that contribute to high patient safety during our operations.
We also see that you actively contribute to a good working environment and promote safety, learning, respect, and a professional approach.
