Our Operations
Department 70 AB We conduct highly specialized complex planned and acute spinal and prosthetic surgery, trauma orthopedics, and hand surgery where we work in multiprofessional teams. Here, the lengths of stay vary and can range from one day to several weeks. 70 A primarily has an acute inflow of patients who are cared for pre- and postoperatively for various types of fractures, often injuries that have occurred after trauma. Patients may, for example, have cut their hand, broken a leg, or been involved in a traffic accident with high-energy violence. Other patients may have suffered a hip fracture after a fall or developed an infection requiring amputation. In this way, our patient clientele is varied in terms of age and underlying diseases. We have doctors with specialist competence in complicated pelvic fractures and difficult hand surgical procedures, which means we receive patients from large parts of the country.
To 70 B comes a large part of our planned care. We assist patients with osteoarthritis who need prosthetic support in hip, knee, or shoulder joints. The acute inflow mainly consists of patients with traumatic fractures of the spine and neck, large herniated discs requiring emergency surgery, or patients with infections that, in addition to antibiotic treatment, require surgical intervention. We have doctors who are highly specialized in prosthetic and spinal surgery, which means we also provide national and regional healthcare here.
Our goal is for patients to feel safe, well cared for, and to receive the support they need to be involved in their care and recover faster. Every day we have many discharges from our department, and as a discharge nurse, you will have a coordinating function for discharge planning.
Your Mission
As a discharge nurse in the department, your mission is to plan for the patient's discharge or transfer to the home hospital together with doctors, nurses, nursing assistants, physiotherapists/occupational therapists. You are responsible for meeting the patient's information needs at discharge and ensuring that the patient feels safe before going home. Some of our patients require municipal services after discharge, where you plan and are responsible for this in consultation with the patient and the care team. You will also be responsible for discharging patients to their home regions.
You will combine your role as a discharge nurse with working clinically on the ward. Working as a nurse on the ward gives you broad competence and good knowledge in orthopedic care. You work in a care team together with nursing assistants, where you are the team leader with varied and developing tasks such as administering medications, infusions, injections, and managing pain pumps, which means you will become accustomed to working with medical technology. In addition to the orthopedic condition, many of our patients also have other underlying diseases that may also need treatment. This means that you will also gain broad medical knowledge.
Your Qualifications
We are looking for you who are a licensed nurse with an interest in discharge planning. You have good collaboration skills and can prioritize and organize your work effectively. You are already confident in your role as a nurse and enjoy having many contacts during the workday. It is advantageous if you have previous experience working with Cosmic Link and the discharge process, as well as a few years of experience as a nurse. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.
We Offer
With us, you will always receive a safe and well-structured introduction. A personal introduction program is developed together with our educational nurse. The introduction includes, among other things, lectures on orthopedic diseases, a course in managing pain pumps, TUB training, transfer techniques, and an introduction with other professional categories to get a comprehensive picture of how we work in the department.
We offer a permanent full-time position as a nurse with a start date according to agreement. In connection with employment, a contract for the role of discharge nurse at 50% will be signed. The assignment is time-limited with the possibility of extension. The working hours as a discharge nurse are scheduled for weekdays during the day, but the working hours for the clinical part also include evening and weekend shifts.
With us, you will receive benefits that make a difference, read about the benefits here (https://regionuppsala.se/jobba-hos-oss/bli-var-nya-kollega/formaner/).
