AT in Västmanland

As an AT doctor with us, you will have an active role in the daily operations where you will quickly get into practical patient work while having good support from your experienced colleagues. We invest in education and you will have the opportunity to participate in theme days, training days, AT meetings, lectures, and insurance medicine courses. Additionally, you will receive a course allowance that you can use for a course that interests you. During 5 optional weeks, you will also have the chance to try out the clinics that have caught your interest.

Your 18-month employment begins with an introductory week and then you will start either with the surgical or internal medicine block and then continue with your placements in psychiatry and general medicine. AT in Region Västmanland means working at Västerås Hospital for 3 of your 4 placements and one placement in the region, which means daily commuting from Västerås. At the AT unit, which is your starting point, you can calmly administer, study, and exchange experiences with your AT doctor colleagues. The AT recruitment is the foundation for our future recruitment of specialists, and we hope that you will continue your career as a ST doctor with us in the long run.

Qualifications

You who apply have a medical degree at the start of the AT training or have received a decision from the National Board of Health and Welfare to do AT. Any decision from the National Board of Health and Welfare must be attached to the application. Your application must be in Swedish. If you also have other relevant education in the field, it is an advantage.

You have experience working as a junior doctor in Swedish healthcare and have good written recommendation letters/certificates from these junior doctor positions that should be signed and preferably also stamped and written recently. It is important that you attach these letters/certificates as they are the basis for the selection.

The AT recruitment is a long-term investment and a foundation for our future recruitment of specialists. Therefore, it is advantageous if you have local ties and a strong interest and commitment to Region Västmanland. Additional experiences that we will consider in the selection are research, trust assignments, educational assignments such as tutor, or similar and other experiences in healthcare.

We place great importance on personal qualities and competencies. We are looking for someone who works well with other people and relates to those around them in a responsive and smooth manner. You remain calm in stressful situations and focus on the right things. You have good judgment and while you take initiative, you also know when to ask for help. Our goal is to have a competent and diverse group of AT doctors with different interests and specializations.

Since you need to be able to communicate verbally and in writing with patients, relatives, and colleagues, good knowledge of the Swedish language is required. Other language skills are an advantage.

Employment Conditions

The general training at Region Västmanland is a fixed-term employment for 18 months. Start date is in August and November 2026.
