We are looking for doctors for basic training

We are now seeking four doctors for basic training. A position designed with a focus on thorough introduction, guidance, and the best possible start for those who have trained outside of Sweden. Welcome to make a difference with us!

Structure of the Basic Training

Independent BT

If you are doing independent basic training (BT) in Region Västmanland, you will be offered a training position, starting with service at our educational reception at the health center, followed by emergency care and psychiatry. The position lasts for 12 months. Part of the service may be located in Köping, while the remaining parts will be carried out in Västerås.

You will be part of a group with other BT doctors, and the goal is for you to support each other and exchange experiences throughout the basic training. You will receive a good introduction to Swedish healthcare and the opportunity to apply for ST in all specialties. As a BT doctor with us, you will have an active role in daily operations where you will quickly engage in practical patient work, while also receiving good support and guidance from experienced colleagues. In addition to the training you receive at each placement, you will have the opportunity to participate in theme days, training days, Medication Forums, regular lectures, and various courses.

Integrated BT/ST (in general medicine or other activities)

If you plan to do an integrated BT/ST with employment in the department where you will later do ST, you should also apply to the BT program through this application. Indicate, in selection question no. 3, where your ST position will be and who your current supervisor is.

The integrated BT position lasts at least 12 months and includes service at the health center, emergency care, and psychiatry.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with a Swedish medical license with a degree from a foreign institution and who is subject to BT requirements. Your medical license must be attached to your application. To succeed in the position, you need to have very good knowledge of Swedish, at least level C1. If you also have other relevant education in the field, it is advantageous. Applications must be submitted in Swedish.

It is an advantage if you have experience working in Swedish healthcare, preferably as a junior doctor or medical assistant. Attach written signed recommendation letters and certificates with your application. It is important that you include these letters and certificates as they are part of our selection assessment. We consider it an important merit if you have local ties and a strong interest and commitment to Region Västmanland. Additional experiences we will consider in the selection include research, trust assignments, educational roles such as teaching assistant, tutor, or similar, and other experiences in healthcare.

We place great emphasis on personal qualities and competencies. We are looking for someone who works well with others and relates to people in their environment in a considerate and smooth manner. You remain calm in stressful situations and focus on the right things. You have good judgment, and while you take initiative, you also know when to ask for help.

Employment Conditions

Fixed-term employment for 12 months, starting for two people in August and two people in November 2026.
