Postdoctoral Researcher in Wireless Security and AI

The Department of Computer and Electrical Engineering offers education in the fields of computer engineering, electronics, electrical engineering, and sound production. Research at the department is conducted at the research center Sensible Things that Communicate (www.miun.se/stc (http://www.miun.se/stc)) and focuses on sensor-based systems and services for use in the Internet of Things and artificial intelligence.

Job Responsibilities

Mid Sweden University is seeking a postdoctoral researcher for the TRUST project, a collaboration between Mid Sweden University and the University of Vaasa in Finland.

The project aims to conduct research on security for wireless networks, with a particular focus on wireless security, blockchain-based trust mechanisms, and AI-driven threat detection. The responsibilities include research and development of security solutions for future wireless networks, including identifying vulnerabilities and protective mechanisms against threats in 5G/6G environments. The postdoctoral researcher will work with advanced methods to analyze, identify, and address security flaws by implementing cryptographic protocols, using Software-Defined Radio (SDR) for security testing, and developing AI-based systems for intrusion detection and explainable AI (XAI) within network security. The research also aims to create blockchain-based mechanisms for secure data exchange in wireless systems. The postdoctoral researcher will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, participate in research projects, and publish results in international journals and conferences. Collaboration with industrial partners and research institutes is an important part of the work, and opportunities for teaching may arise depending on the scope of the project.

Qualifications

The candidate for the postdoctoral position must meet the eligibility requirements described at this link (https://www.miun.se/medarbetare/styrdokument/ny-styrning-planering-och-uppfoljning/Personal/Anstalla-personal/?item=311447).

This position requires a PhD in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field, as well as a strong research background in wireless security, cryptographic protocols, and computer networks.

Assessment Criteria

In assessing applicants, special emphasis will be placed on scientific competence in relevant areas, experience with 5G/6G network security, and knowledge of machine learning frameworks and cybersecurity analysis. Previous experience with collaborative projects and research applications, as well as the ability to contribute to the development of innovative security solutions, is advantageous. Experience in experimental research, including the development of proof-of-concepts, is also an important merit. The candidate should have practical experience with Software-Defined Radio (SDR) and security testing, as well as good knowledge of blockchain-based trust mechanisms and secure data exchange. Furthermore, experience with AI-driven threat detection, particularly focusing on reliable AI and explainable AI (XAI), is required. The candidate should have documented scientific publication merit in international journals and conferences, as well as strong programming skills in languages such as Python and MATLAB.

Personal Qualities

The position requires good collaboration skills and flexibility, as well as the ability to work independently and drive research. The candidate should have strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, as well as good communication skills in English, both spoken and written.

Other Assessment Criteria
