Postdoctoral Researcher in Multidimensional Image Processing and Deep Learning

At the Department of Computer and Electrical Engineering, education is conducted in the fields of computer engineering, electronics, electrical engineering, and sound production. Research at the department is conducted at the research center Sensible Things that Communicate (www.miun.se/stc (http://www.miun.se/stc)) and focuses on sensor-based systems and services for use in the Internet of Things and artificial intelligence.

Job Responsibilities

Mid Sweden University is seeking a talented and motivated candidate with a strong background in multidimensional image processing, computer vision, and deep learning to implement innovative visual AI and develop the next generation of immersive media for remote presence and operation.

The research for this position will be conducted in the Realistic 3D research group at the STC research center in a project closely collaborating with international academic and industry partners. The research will consider areas such as optimization of deep neural networks for resource-constrained architecture, neural architecture search (NAS) methods, distance estimation, segmentation, and classification for integration into a remote control system. The focus will be on algorithmic development utilizing new technology for deep learning.

The field of computer engineering encompasses techniques, theories, and methodological aspects of the construction, function, and applications of computers, including both hardware and software. The field of computer engineering for doctoral education at Mid Sweden University consists of three specializations - communication networks, data analysis, and multidimensional signal processing.

Eligibility

The applicant must have a doctoral degree or equivalent in computer science, computer engineering, or equivalent knowledge at the start of employment. The doctoral degree must have been obtained no later than three years before the application deadline.

Assessment Criteria

The candidate is expected to have demonstrated expertise in image processing, computer vision, and deep learning; excellent skills in software programming and implementation of deep learning, using e.g. Python/PyTorch/Tensorflow etc.; and excellent communication skills in written and spoken English.

Previous experience in the following areas is advantageous: immersive media algorithm development, as well as high-performance computing (HPC) and parallel computing on GPUs.

Personal qualities required for the position include analytical, systematic, communicative, and the ability to work independently and in teams. Additional desirable qualities are curiosity, creative thinking, initiative, and goal-oriented.
