Assistant Nurse at the Orthopedic Clinic

The Orthopedic Clinic at the University Hospital in Linköping is part of the Center for Surgery, Orthopedics, and Cancer Care (CKOC) within Region Östergötland.

The clinic consists of a care department with a teaching department, outpatient clinic, and rehabilitation unit where both acute and planned orthopedic patients are treated. In addition to basic orthopedics, the clinic's specialties include upper and lower extremity surgery, spinal surgery, pediatric orthopedics, and tumor surgery, with a mission to manage patients from the entire Southeast healthcare region. We are a large clinic with many dedicated and skilled employees working together in interdisciplinary teams.

The most common condition we treat is acute fractures, with the most frequent fractures being hip, ankle, wrist, and shoulder fractures. The most common spinal diagnoses we treat are herniated discs, spinal stenosis, vertebral fractures, and scoliosis.

Job Description

We work in teams staffed by a nurse and two assistant nurses. The clinic has a large rehabilitation unit with occupational therapists and physiotherapists who work daily on the ward. You will also collaborate closely with doctors, social workers, and dietitians. Around you are also important functions such as ward doctors, coordinators, and meal functions. Together, we create the team that is so important for us to provide the best care for our patients.

Your tasks mainly consist of pre- and post-operative care, assistance and training in ADL, and coaching the patient with mobilization. Our care is provided 24/7, and we apply an individual schedule.

During your introduction, you will shadow a mentor for three weeks, and all newly graduated assistant nurses participate in an in-depth introduction program during the first year, a clinical foundation year, and a mentorship program. To take care of our patients in the best way, we offer ongoing internal competence development and work in various areas of responsibility.

About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has a complete high school education in the Health and Care program or equivalent (at least 2250 points).
  • If you have studied through adult education, at least 1400 points in the Health and Care education or equivalent is required.
  • Has passing grades in all courses.
  • It is an advantage if you have a diploma from the Health and Care College (applies to both youth and adult education).
  • It is also advantageous if you have passed the course in Emergency Care, 200 points.

We are now looking for positive and engaged assistant nurses for a varied and stimulating job. Working with us means a varying pace, which requires you to have a good ability to plan, prioritize, and structure your work together with your team. In your daily work, you will collaborate with different professions, and we require very good teamwork skills and responsiveness. We also see that you communicate clearly and have good Swedish language skills in both speech and writing.
