Research Position at the Department of Neuroscience and Physiology

Gothenburg University meets societal challenges with versatile knowledge. 58,000 students and 6,800 employees make the university a large and inspiring workplace. Strong research and attractive education attract researchers and students from all over the world. With new knowledge and perspectives, Gothenburg University contributes to a better future.

At the Department of Neuroscience and Physiology at Sahlgrenska Academy, extensive research and teaching are conducted across large areas of knowledge - from molecule to human. The operations consist of five sections: pharmacology, physiology, health and rehabilitation, clinical neuroscience, and psychiatry and neurochemistry.

The Department of Neuroscience and Physiology is now seeking a researcher, based at the Section of Psychiatry and Neurochemistry.

Job Responsibilities

The position involves applying methodological knowledge in brain imaging and cognitive science. The applicant will work alongside experts in body fluid biomarkers and genetics to illuminate questions within clinical psychiatric research. The analyses involve merging brain imaging data and cognitive data with genetic markers and biomarkers analyzed in blood and cerebrospinal fluid. The aim is to investigate the relationships between biological factors and clinical outcome variables.

We are looking for a colleague with high competence primarily in brain imaging and cognitive science, who preferably also has experience analyzing body fluid biomarkers. The applicant must have documented research experience in these areas and be highly motivated and creative. The position involves analyzing data, writing scientific articles, supervising students and doctoral candidates, participating in conferences, and applying for research grants. An important part of the position is to lead the research group's work within the international consortium for brain imaging, ENIGMA. The applicant will work with several patient cohorts, primarily with bipolar disorder.

Qualifications

Eligible for employment as a researcher is someone who holds a doctoral degree in medicine or another relevant field. For this position, documented postdoctoral experience of two years is also required. Deep knowledge of brain imaging analyses and cognitive data analysis is a requirement. The applicant must therefore be accustomed to working in a relevant analysis program such as FreeSurfer and fMRIPrep.

The applicant should also have experience in biological clinical psychiatric research. Experience in clinical work within psychiatry and work within international research consortia is advantageous. Proficiency in spoken and written English is required. Communication with authorities (The National Board of Health and Welfare, Statistics Sweden, The Ethical Review Authority) occurs in Swedish, thus a basic ability to communicate in Swedish is also required. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.

Employment

The position is a permanent employment, 100% full-time, based at the Department of Neuroscience and Physiology. Start date: as soon as possible or by agreement. A probationary period may be applied.
