Student Supporter at Hjortmosseskolan
We are proud of the over 5,000 employees of the city of Trollhättan, who make a positive difference in the lives of our residents every day and contribute to the development of the city’s sustainability and vitality. We are driven and motivated by the guiding principles of Courage, Participation, Innovation, and Action. Here, there is exciting development where you can help make our city even better.
Description
Hjortmosseskolan is a centrally located municipal F-6 school with approximately 370 students. At the school, we have the advantage of having students and staff from many different cultures, which enriches our operations.
At Hjortmosseskolan, each grade works in teams where teachers and after-school staff collaborate closely. This is a working method that we will continue to develop to focus on the student’s entire day with us. We are good at recognizing all students' needs and challenges as part of the belief that diversity is an asset. The school has two different special education groups divided between lower and middle school levels. We have students who split their day between class and this group, but we also have students who are there for their entire school day.
Student supporters working at our school have a significant and important role in supporting students in their development both in learning and social interaction. You will always work together with the team or be part of the special education group’s work. At the after-school program, your role continues where you still have primary responsibility for your student, but we see it as important that you alternate since both the student and you need variation throughout the day.
As staff at our school, you will encounter many cultures and individuals with different languages, backgrounds, and abilities.
Responsibilities
As the school has an increased need regarding a student’s functional abilities, well-being, and care, we are now seeking reinforcement in the form of a student supporter. The student is just starting in the school world and has several different support needs that the school is currently assessing and analyzing. The support needs are related to concentration and learning, but the main part is related to well-being and care, as the student struggles with personal hygiene. The student faces challenges within the NPF spectrum.
As part of the special education group for grades 1-3, you will also work with all students' learning and their relationship with themselves and participate as an important player in developing interactions with peers and adults. You will work as a team and help with the student group, even though your assignment will be focused on individual needs. You will also be placed at one of our F-2 after-school programs where the student is placed in the mornings and afternoons. You are good at working in a team but can also take responsibility on your own and should be a good adult role model in everything you do.
At the school, we work to ensure that student supporters are continuously supervised and have opportunities for professional development as needed. We strive for student supporters to have opportunities to exchange experiences and become a group where the role of supporting students is developed together.
Qualifications
For this position, you need to have an education as a nursing assistant, preschool teacher, student assistant, support educator, or another qualification that the employer deems equivalent. To succeed in this role, it is advantageous to have experience working in care and/or LSS.
Additionally, you need to have:
- knowledge of different functional variations and how they affect learning for an individual student and what it can mean in relation to the environment.
- knowledge of low-arousal responses and clear pedagogical approaches in both theory and practice.
- task awareness where the goal is always for each student to reach as far as possible in their learning.
We further see that you are responsible and work well in a team but also independently, and that you can provide good references from previous work with children/students that demonstrate your ability to apply your knowledge in practice.
Experience working with younger children/students in preschool/school in need of support in various ways is meritorious, as is experience working in special education groups where several students with support needs work together.
We place great importance on personal suitability.
