Operational Area (VO) Tillberga
The operational area (VO) Tillberga consists of a prison with 247 places in security class 3. The prison can offer an attractive environment with a well-functioning program operation and valuable employment through the factory that employs the clients. There are about 100 employees, the majority of whom are correctional officers, but it also includes chefs, production leaders, program leaders, and nurses, among others. The prison is located in Tillberga, just under ten kilometers north of Västerås, and is led by a prison director together with five correctional inspectors.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

As a correctional officer in a prison, you are the foundation of the security work. You work in teams with other professional groups to maintain a safe and secure operation and to motivate clients towards a life without crime. Daily tasks include locking and unlocking residential rooms, searching premises, and supervision, as well as communication and release preparations, among other things. The role of a correctional officer involves a structured and routine-based approach with a focus on risk assessment and security awareness. It is important that you share the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's fundamental values of a humane view of humanity, respect for the individual, and the belief that people can develop and change.
The probationary employment begins with three weeks of introduction at Tillberga prison. After a few months of service, we will schedule when you will start the mandatory basic training for the Swedish Prison and Probation Service. The training lasts for eight weeks and takes place during paid working hours. Assessment occurs continuously before the probationary employment transitions to permanent employment after six months.
QUALIFICATIONS
Your personal qualities are important. As a correctional officer, you need to be secure, stable, have good self-awareness, sound judgment, and integrity. Together with your colleagues, you drive the operation, so you need to have good collaboration skills and be clear in your communication. You should be able to act physically when required.
We are looking for someone who has:
- Complete secondary education or other education in combination with work experience that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service deems relevant
- Work experience, including seasonal work, hourly employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not equivalent to employment
- Good knowledge of the Swedish language in both speech and writing
- Good computer skills
It is an advantage if you have:
- Work experience from corrections, security work, social care, psychiatry, or health and care work
- Knowledge in relevant areas, such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, and conflict management
- Relevant language skills
- Driver's license B
