The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is expanding – we are building new facilities, renovating, and adding to our workforce. Our primary goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society will be safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, remand, and client transport.

Operational Area (VO) Tillberga

The Operational Area (VO) Tillberga consists of a prison with 247 places in security class 3. The prison offers an attractive environment with a well-functioning program and valuable employment through the factory that engages the clients. There are approximately 100 employees, the majority being correctional officers, but also including chefs, production leaders, program leaders, and nurses, among others. The prison is located in Tillberga, just under ten kilometers north of Västerås, and is led by a Prison Director along with five correctional inspectors.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Working as a correctional officer means you can make a difference for others and contribute to a better society. To thrive and succeed in your role, it is important that you share the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's fundamental values of a humane view of humanity, respect for the individual, and the belief that people can develop.

As a correctional officer, you will be part of a team where you have daily contact with the client. The tasks at the prison are varied: care, surveillance, searches, and security work are mixed with release planning and conversation/motivation work.

You will start your employment at the workplace with an introduction. The temporary position lasts from week 23 to week 34.

QUALIFICATIONS

Your personal qualities are important. As a correctional officer, you need to be secure, stable, have good self-awareness, sound judgment, and integrity. Together with your colleagues, you will drive the operations, so you need to have good collaboration skills and be clear in your communication. You should be able to act physically when required.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Complete upper secondary education or other education combined with work experience that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service considers relevant
  • Work experience, including seasonal work, hourly employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not considered equivalent to employment
  • Good knowledge of the Swedish language in both speech and writing
  • Good computer skills

It is an advantage if you have:

  • Work experience from corrections, security work, social care, psychiatry, or healthcare
  • Knowledge in relevant areas, such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, and conflict management
  • Relevant language skills
  • Driving license B
