The Geriatric section is part of the primary care clinic and is a research-active university hospital unit belonging to Primary Care in central Östergötland. The clinic has about 160 employees, of which about half work within the Geriatrics Section. The primary care clinic also includes the LAH Section and the Primary Care Section.

Job Description

The work on the ward is done in multiprofessional teams with a focus on a holistic view of the elderly patient’s needs. GAVA operates in the areas of medical diagnostics, treatment, nursing, rehabilitation, and social planning. The ward has a clinical teaching ward (KUA) and a cognition unit for patients with impaired cognitive ability. The section also includes a geriatric outpatient clinic. GAVA currently consists of three care teams, and we plan to permanently open a fourth care team. At GAVA, we have close cooperation between each care team, nurses, doctors, physiotherapists, dietitians, and social workers, where you as a nursing assistant play an important role in the team. You will work with common nursing assistant tasks on the ward.

We are looking for someone with an interest in geriatric emergency care. With us, you have the opportunity for longer patient contact, good continuity, and to follow the patient. As a nursing assistant with us, you, together with the responsible nurse, share the responsibility for ensuring that the care of the patient maintains a high quality and that we work towards the patient’s set goals.

About You

We are looking for you who are a trained nursing assistant with experience in emergency care. It is advantageous if you know the Cosmic journal system. You are a nursing assistant focused on emergency care who is already working as a nursing assistant and wants a new challenge, but also you who are a newly graduated nursing assistant focused on emergency care and want to come to a workplace where there is great opportunity to grow. It is advantageous if you have a specialist education in elderly care. Since you work in constant dialogue with patients and colleagues, it is a requirement that you have good knowledge of the Swedish language, both spoken and written. One of our care teams consists of cognitively impaired patients, so it is advantageous to have experience in dementia care.

Basic Requirements for Employment as a Nursing Assistant:

• Approved high school education of at least 2250 points, Nursing and Care program or equivalent.
• For adult education, approved high school education equivalent to at least 1400 points within the Nursing and Care education or equivalent.
• Grading criteria: At least grade E in all courses (passed).
• Desirable is a diploma issued from certified education via the Nursing and Care College, applicable to both youth and adult education.

Uses knowledge, skills, and abilities in interactions during patient meetings or care situations. Since you work in constant dialogue with patients and colleagues, it is a requirement that you have good knowledge of the Swedish language, both spoken and written.

We will place great emphasis on personal qualities such as flexibility, teamwork ability, and service orientation. As a nursing assistant, you must see the patient and communicate their needs to the nurse/doctor. We see that you can work independently and take your own initiatives but also work in a team. We work closely together and need to have good communication to successfully solve the tasks we encounter in everyday life. Thus, the position suits you who thrive on collaboration and are attentive and communicative with both colleagues, patients, and relatives. We encourage interest in helping to advance our operations. We also place great importance on your ability to create a holistic view of the geriatric patient and their relatives, to create security and meet their needs.

As a nursing assistant, your working hours will be scheduled for days, evenings, and weekends. After a year, night work will also occur in the schedule.

As a new nursing assistant with us at GAVA, you will receive an introduction for 3 weeks and a mentor you can turn to.
