Experienced Anesthesiologists Wanted at the Defense Medicine Center

Do you want to work in a dynamic and challenging environment where your medical expertise can make a difference both nationally and internationally? The Defense Medicine Center in Gothenburg is now seeking experienced anesthesiologists for an exciting and varied position at the Hospital Battalion. Here you will have the opportunity to work with advanced healthcare in the field, lead medical efforts under demanding conditions, and contribute to training and development within the healthcare capacity of the Armed Forces. At the Hospital Battalion, we drive the development of Sweden's existing and upcoming field hospitals, and you will become a central part of building up the volume within these types of units.

Main Responsibilities

As an anesthesiologist, you will independently resuscitate and perform damage-limiting measures based on the individual needs of the patient and sometimes complex injuries, with limited resources. Placement can occur in both surgery and intensive care. The professional role may also include triaging patients in the acute phase. The work can take place under pressured working conditions, where the tactical situation is crucial, and the work environments can be physically challenging. Collaboration within your own unit is always prioritized. Parts of the working time may be spent abroad in international military missions or exercises with our allies. A significant focus will be on training more medically operational units, which requires you to conduct training, both as a student and instructor, participate in exercises, and plan for upcoming activities. The position includes clinical service with civilian healthcare providers for up to 30% of the working time to maintain your clinical skills.

Examples of Common Tasks:

  • Resuscitation according to DATC.
  • Responsible for patient ventilation and fluid balance
  • Stabilizing the patient before transport to a higher level of care/transferring to another unit
  • Planning for peri- and postoperative care.
  • Participating in the establishment of the unit (grouping) and care of materials.
  • Training various personnel categories in defense medicine.
  • The professional role also includes combat training to protect and defend your own unit and its patients.

Qualifications

  • Licensed physician, specialist competence in Anesthesiology/ICU. Knowledge must be current.
  • Experience in trauma management.
  • Good ability to express yourself verbally and in writing in English and Swedish.
  • Fully healthy and meets the requirements of FMFysS.
  • Driver's license B

Meritorious

  • Military basic training such as completed conscription, Basic Soldier Training for International Service (GSU INT), Basic Military Training (GMU), or Basic Soldier Training (GSU).
  • Previous military service nationally or internationally, especially in defense medicine.
  • Documented experience in training and instructor competencies.
  • Experience in prehospital work.
  • Heavy driving licenses (BE, C, CE).

Personal Qualities

You are flexible, allowing you to quickly adapt to different situations, environments, and work constellations. Your ability to collaborate is important; you share knowledge, experiences, and information and support others in striving to achieve common goals. You are aware of your own strengths and areas for development and take advantage of opportunities for knowledge acquisition. You enjoy training others. You strive for continuous development in your professional role.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.
