The Defense Medicine Center in Gothenburg is now seeking experienced anesthesiologists for an exciting and varied position at the Hospital Battalion. Here you will have the opportunity to work with advanced medical care in the field, lead medical efforts under demanding conditions, and contribute to education and development within the healthcare capacity of the Armed Forces. At the hospital battalion, we drive the development of Sweden's existing and upcoming field hospitals, and you will become a central part of building up the volume within these types of units.

Main Responsibilities

As a surgeon, you will independently and with limited resources make advanced surgical assessments and treatments based on the patient's individual needs and sometimes complex injuries. The work may take place under pressured working conditions, where the tactical situation is crucial and the work environments can be physically challenging. Collaboration within your own unit is always prioritized. Parts of the working hours may be spent abroad in international military missions or exercises with our allies. A strong focus will be on training more surgical units, which requires you to conduct training, both as a student and instructor, participate in exercises, and plan for upcoming activities. The position includes clinical service with a civilian healthcare provider for up to 30% of the working hours to maintain your clinical skills.

Examples of Common Tasks:

• Stabilize patients prior to transport to a higher level of care/transfer to another unit, including surgical measures.
• Plan for peri- and postoperative care.
• Participate in establishing the unit (grouping) and maintaining equipment.
• Training of various personnel categories within defense medicine.
• The professional role also includes combat training to protect and defend your own unit and its patients.

Qualifications

• Licensed physician, specialist competence in emergency surgery. Knowledge must be current.
• Experience in trauma management.
• Good ability to express yourself verbally and in writing in English and Swedish.
• Fully healthy and meets the requirements in FMFysS.
• Driver's license B

Meritorious

• Military basic training such as completed conscription, Basic Soldier Training for International Service (GSU INT), Basic Military Training (GMU), or Basic Soldier Training (GSU).
• Previous military service nationally or internationally, especially within defense medicine.
• Documented experience in training and instructor competencies.
• Experience in pre-hospital work.
• Heavier driving licenses (BE, C, CE).

Employment type: Permanent. A six-month probationary period applies.

Employment rate: Full-time. Travel both nationally and internationally may occur, as well as working evenings and weekends.

The employment involves a military placement at the Hospital Battalion.
