Our Operations

Clinical Immunology and Transfusion Medicine is a section at the Academic Laboratory that provides round-the-clock laboratory services and medical expertise for blood transfusions and cell therapy, as well as preparations for organ transplants. We conduct research and development in collaboration with Uppsala University. Our operations consist of two specialties: clinical immunology (autoimmunity and allergy, and cellular immunology) and transfusion medicine (blood transfusion and blood donation).

Your Mission

In the section, the following is conducted:

• Selection and care of blood donors
• Production and control of blood components, blood stem cells, and Langerhans islet cells for transplantation
• Investigative work and laboratory examinations prior to blood transfusion, organ, tissue, and cell transplantation
• Autoimmune diagnostics, allergy investigations, and investigations regarding immune deficiencies
• Patient treatments using apheresis techniques

On-call and standby duties are included. We have regular rounds together with various clinics. The section assists other counties in the region, even during on-call hours. We support each other so that the puzzle of life can be solved for all of us, regardless of where we are in life. The medical work, which is very independent, also involves research and development of techniques and routines, so great independence and drive, both in clinical everyday life and in scientific contexts, are important. Working in a stimulating and pleasant environment is important for achieving results, both clinically and scientifically.

Your Qualifications

We are looking for a licensed physician with specialist competence in clinical immunology and transfusion medicine and at least 5 years of experience as a specialist physician. You have documented medical knowledge and skills as well as teaching experience, and you have contributed to the development in the field. You hold a doctoral degree in medicine. Ongoing research in the specialty area is an advantage. Expert assessment will be conducted regarding whether the applicant meets the merit requirements of Uppsala University Hospital for senior physicians. If you enjoy developing new ideas, thinking outside the box, and working independently, you will fit well into our team. You also understand the importance of quality and what it means for an accredited operation. The work requires good communication skills as it involves a lot of collaboration with the clinic's other staff. Personal qualities are highly valued.
