Summer Job in Physical Planning

Are you a student curious about how cities and communities are planned – and want to gain practical experience this summer?

With us, you as a student will have a meaningful summer where you combine theory from your studies with real experience in physical planning. You will work closely with experienced planners/architects and contribute to projects that affect how people live, move, and thrive. We are now looking for summer workers for the planning department within Skellefteå municipality.

YOUR ROLE

As a summer worker in the planning department, you will become part of our team and have the opportunity to work on one or more tasks that give you insight into the planning process. Tasks may include participating in analyses, structural sketches, developing design principles, program documents, or materials for planning proposals. You may also contribute to investigations, documentation, and practical support in ongoing projects, where collaboration and idea exchange are a natural part of everyday life.

Depending on the needs of the department, your tasks may be adjusted and changed, which requires you to be flexible. You will work independently when needed, but primarily in close collaboration with other summer workers and colleagues.

YOUR COMPETENCE AND EXPERIENCE

We are looking for someone studying at the university level in urban planning, physical planning, architecture, landscape architecture, cultural geography, or another equivalent education, with at least two years of completed studies. You already have a basic understanding of planning processes and now want to gain practical experience where you can apply theory to real projects.

You communicate clearly in Swedish, both spoken and written, and adapt your language to the situation – whether it involves colleagues, citizens, politicians, or external partners.

YOUR NEW WORKPLACE

The planning department is part of the Community Building Administration, where 17 dedicated employees work to shape the future of Skellefteå. We work with everything from comprehensive planning and detailed plans to preliminary decisions – all assignments aim to create sustainable, attractive, and well-functioning environments for people who live, work, and visit the municipality.

We collaborate closely with other administrations, politicians, citizens, and external actors to ensure that planning is both strategically anchored and adapted to local needs. As a summer worker, you will gain a unique insight into how planning works in practice, develop your skills, and contribute your own ideas that make a difference – both now and for the future.
