Job Responsibilities

The acute care services in Region Västmanland are among the largest in the country, where the Surgical Clinic supports other clinics in the assessment and management of critically ill patients. We offer a fixed-term position as a junior doctor at the clinic with the possibility of continued specialization training (ST) in anesthesia and intensive care.

During the training period as a ST doctor, clinical duties under supervision as well as independent patient work are included. After six months of service, on-call duties are also included. During the first six months, primary on-call is included, where the work is conducted under close supervision of the intermediate on-call doctor at the hospital. Those who are on intermediate call are always present at the hospital, while those who are on back-up call are on standby at home.

We have scheduled study time and ST seminars. Each ST doctor is assigned a supervisor with an approved supervisor training during the employment. For scientific work and quality improvement work, you will have access to a PhD anesthesiologist who will assist with supervision. The clinic underwent a SPUR inspection in 2021.

About the Workplace

At the Surgical Clinic in Västmanland, 46 anesthesiologists work, of which 11 are currently ST doctors. The clinic is regional. The operations in Västerås include not only the operating department but also an intensive care unit with eight beds and a pain clinic. A total of four operating rooms are staffed in Köping and 18 in Västerås. The operations have a wide scope. In Västerås, most emergency surgeries are performed. There is a comprehensive orthopedic operation as well as urology, ENT, gynecology including obstetrics, robotic surgery, and vascular surgery. In Köping, there is a day surgery unit.

Each year, approximately 14,000 anesthesias are performed at the clinic, of which about 3,000 in Köping and pediatric anesthesia from 6 months of age. Approximately 750 patients are cared for in the ICU each year, and about 2,500 deliveries are performed at the hospital annually. The hospital has a well-functioning trauma organization.

Qualifications

We are looking for a licensed doctor. For the position, you should have an approved AT or BT training, but those who are at the end of their training are also welcome to apply. A prerequisite for employment is that you are approved and obtain a license. It is advantageous if you have a doctoral or licentiate degree. If you have previously worked in anesthesia and intensive care, we see it as a significant advantage. Knowledge of the Cosmic journal system is advantageous. Since the role involves communicating with patients, relatives, and colleagues, we expect you to have good knowledge of the Swedish language, both spoken and written.

As a person, you are secure, stable, and have an empathetic approach. You collaborate well with others while being able to take your own initiatives and work independently. We see that you can lead and mentor others in a respectful and positive manner. The role requires clear communication, adaptability to changing circumstances, and a good ability to make accurate assessments and judgments.

Employment Conditions

Fixed-term employment: Full-time, 6 months with the possibility of transitioning to ST position

Working hours: Daytime, on-call and standby included
