Academic Children's Hospital

Do you want to be part of our pediatric diabetes team?

Our operations

Academic Children's Hospital is the small hospital in the big one, with four inpatient wards and a large outpatient operation. We have high specialist competence in many medical areas. Within the section for specialized pediatrics, there are ten specialist clinics responsible for children with allergies, lung diseases, diabetes, endocrine diseases, gastrointestinal diseases, heart diseases, obesity, rheumatological diseases, and kidney diseases.

Your mission

The diabetes clinic for children and adolescents has the C-county responsibility for children with type 1 diabetes, which means that we follow over 300 children and adolescents and their families.

The pediatric diabetes team includes a dietitian, social worker, doctor, nurse, and psychologist. Teamwork with close collaboration between professions is optimal to best help children and families with all aspects of life affected by the disease. Children and adolescents with diabetes are primarily followed in outpatient care, but we also have a good collaboration with emergency care and the associated inpatient ward.

The nurse's role in the team is central, and the work is varied. Doctors and nurses work together on medical care. In many areas, the tasks are the same, which allows for covering for each other when needed. An important part of the work is individualized education for the child/adolescent and family to enable good blood sugar control without affecting daily life more than necessary. Education begins early in the acute phase after diagnosis in collaboration with the ward's staff, aiming for the family to be able to return home safely and subsequently become increasingly independent.

Meetings with the child and family occur at all different stages of life, and as a nurse, you have the opportunity to help find solutions for the individual and family you meet. A good relationship with the child/adolescent and their family is an important foundation for them to safely grow in knowledge and gradually take increased responsibility for their illness. In diabetes treatment, the development of technical aids is rapid, providing great opportunities for flexible and smooth treatment for the patient group. We who treat diabetes must stay updated on technological developments, and it is part of the nurse's mission to maintain contact with product specialists from the companies.

Since we work within a section with many narrow specialty areas, collaboration between the different parts of the section is also important. There is also a close connection to Uppsala University within the organization, and research and development are important aspects of the work.

Your qualifications

We are now looking for someone who has an interest and experience in working with children and adolescents. You are a licensed nurse, and we would like you to have specialized training in either Pediatric Health Care or Diabetes Care. An interest in working with medical technology and staying updated in the field is also important. You have good collaboration skills, enjoy working in teams, and want to be part of developing our operations.

Proactivity and experience in development are meritorious, as well as experience in pediatric and diabetes care and coordination of various care interventions for patients. As a person, you are engaged, independent, and confident in your role as a nurse. You easily build good relationships with both children and adults. You see it as a given to contribute to quality development and work with a clear patient focus. Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities.

If you have questions about the position, please feel free to contact us for more information. We warmly welcome your application! Interviews will be conducted continuously, so do not wait to apply.
