About the Department

With over 300 employees, the Eye Care Department at Sahlgrenska University Hospital is one of Sweden’s largest eye care facilities. We provide everything from outpatient clinics to emergency care and have our own inpatient and surgical departments. We are the small hospital within the large. In our surgical department, all types of eye surgery are performed across seven operating rooms, three of which are equipped for anesthesia. We perform nearly 6000 surgeries every year and provide day surgery, emergency, and inpatient care.

What Do We Offer?

Are you a nurse with an interest in eye care, pre- and postoperative care, and outpatient work? We welcome you to the Eye Care Department, a place with many opportunities for you as an employee, both in terms of development and variety.

In our preoperative unit, you will meet patients preparing for eye surgery. You will have a meaningful role that makes a significant difference for a large patient group, as many of the surgeries performed yield immediate results for the patient. A rewarding job where you meet patients undergoing eye surgery, mostly under local anesthesia, but you will also care for patients who will be anesthetized for their surgery and go home afterward. You play a crucial role for patients who may often feel anxious about their upcoming surgery. You will also be trained in simpler outpatient work at the eye surgical clinic. The work is scheduled Monday to Friday during the day.

Job Responsibilities

As a nurse in our preoperative unit, you will prepare and inform our patients before and after their eye surgery. The position also involves some postoperative care for our day surgery patients. You will work closely with the nursing staff in the operating department, inpatient department, eye surgical clinic, and surgical coordinators. As a team, you will work closely with the patient to provide the best care possible. A good reception makes a difference. Since the preoperative unit is part of the Eye Surgical Clinic, you will also be introduced and trained in simpler outpatient work and patient counseling.

About You

We are looking for a licensed nurse or ophthalmic nurse with an interest in eye care. You are inspired by meeting patients and are good at communicating and providing clear information. We believe that you, as an applicant, enjoy collaborating and being part of a team.

As a person, you are positive towards change and motivated to develop and find new working methods. Previous experience in eye care is an advantage. Personal suitability will be given great importance.

In the event of recruitment of nurses/doctors with foreign licenses/specialist certificates, the position will be preceded by a process to meet the requirements for Swedish licenses/specialist certificates.

If you are a newly graduated nurse, you will be part of the Clinical Foundation Year, which is our introductory program. The Clinical Foundation Year is mandatory and lasts for the first year of your employment with us. It includes lectures, nursing supervision, and practical training of your profession at the Simulation Center. Additionally, it includes service in at least two different departments to broaden your competence.
