The Department of Law is one of the larger departments at Stockholm University.

The department has around 150 employees and 5,500 students. More than 70 teachers are fully engaged in teaching and conducting the research that underpins the education. Procedural Law with a focus on Arbitration Law

Job Responsibilities

The job responsibilities include teaching, research, and administration as well as contacts with the surrounding community. The position is full-time and includes teaching for 70 percent of the annual working time. Teaching includes lectures, seminars, and other interactive course components, examinations, course responsibility, course administration, supervision, and development and updating of teaching materials.

The position involves research and teaching in procedural law with a focus on arbitration law. Teaching primarily in other procedural law areas than arbitration law may also be included, as well as teaching in other subjects.

The job responsibilities also include applying for external research funding and following developments in the own subject area and the societal development that is relevant to the teacher's work at the university.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for appointment as a university lecturer, according to Chapter 4, Section 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance, one must have obtained a doctoral degree in law or have equivalent scientific competence, and have demonstrated pedagogical skill.

A requirement for the position is good knowledge of both English and Swedish, and the person offered the position must be able to teach in both languages within two years from the start of the appointment.

As a general eligibility requirement, the applicant must have both the ability to collaborate and the competence and suitability needed to fulfill the job responsibilities.

Assessment Criteria

Particular and equal importance is attached to scientific and pedagogical skill. Administrative ability and the ability to collaborate with the surrounding community are also valued.

Preference will be given to those who have competence in both arbitration law, particularly international arbitration, and other Swedish procedural law.

In assessing scientific competence, the scientific quality of the research is primarily considered. The scope of the research, mainly regarding depth and breadth, is also significant. Special importance is placed on experience in research on arbitration law, particularly international arbitration, as well as Swedish procedural law. Furthermore, the ability to plan, initiate, lead, and develop research and doctoral education, as well as the ability to obtain research funding in competition, is considered. The ability to interact both within the scientific community and with the surrounding society is also valued.

In assessing pedagogical competence, the pedagogical quality is primarily considered. Previous teaching experience is also significant. Special importance is placed on experience in teaching arbitration law, but teaching in other procedural law as well as in other legal science subjects is also meritorious. Furthermore, the ability to plan, initiate, lead, and develop teaching, as well as the ability to connect teaching to research, is considered. The ability to interact on higher education pedagogical issues with actors within and outside the university is also part of pedagogical competence.

Administrative skill and experience, as well as other skills and experiences relevant to the position and the job responsibilities included, are also counted as merits. Such skills can be demonstrated, for example, through the ability to conduct overall operational planning, skill in leading operations and personnel, and through the ability to collaborate. The ability to cooperate with the surrounding community and to inform about research and development work is also a merit.
