The highly specialized cancer care at Uppsala University Hospital is among the best in the country. The pace is high, the care is complex, and it involves a variety of specialist competencies. Our goal is to be nationally and internationally leading in care, research, and education in the field of cancer.

Our work is characterized by care for both the patient and each other, and we work long-term and strategically with various forms of competence development. Within Hematology and Oncology, there are six sections, and we are a total of about 400 employees.

Our Operations

The Oncology Ward 101 B is an inpatient ward providing care around the clock every day of the year. Here, patients with various types of tumors are treated, and common diagnoses include breast cancer, head and neck tumors, sarcomas, and cancers of the gastrointestinal tract.

Patients come to the ward when their investigation, treatment, or illness requires inpatient care. This may involve treatments in the form of chemotherapy/antibody treatment and various radiation therapies or that patients have, for example, infections or pain and nutritional problems. We have both acute and elective admissions. The length of stay for our patients varies from a few days to several weeks. We have close collaboration with other departments/clinics within our area of operations and are for example connected to several research studies, with several study patients being cared for in our ward.

Our operations are in constant development, both in medical care and in our working methods in the ward. We enjoy developing and constantly improving!

Your Mission

As a nursing assistant in oncology, you are an important part of the highly specialized care around the patients. Together with a nurse, you are responsible for a care team where you can focus on nursing assistant tasks. We are a technology-intensive department, and you will perform standard nursing assistant tasks but will also have the opportunity to receive delegation for more specialized tasks such as handling various types of drains, such as PTC catheters, ascites and pleural drains, managing tube feeding and associated pumps, tracheostomy care, etc.

You will have close collaboration with the medical team and other professionals involved in the patient's care team. With us, you have good opportunities for development in your professional role, whether you are a new or experienced nursing assistant.

Your Qualifications

We are looking for someone who is a trained nursing assistant or a nursing student who has completed semester 3, or a medical student who has completed semester 6.

Previous experience working in an inpatient ward is an advantage. Previous experience with our medical record system, Cosmic, is also an advantage.

Great emphasis is placed on personal suitability.

You are calm, attentive, and accommodating in your interactions. You enjoy collaborating closely with your colleagues and strive for a positive atmosphere in the work group. You work service-oriented and have an interest and willingness to help others. Furthermore, you always put the patient in focus and see the overall picture around them. You take responsibility for your tasks, work in a structured manner, and easily adapt to changing circumstances. You are articulate and engaged in various contexts, listen attentively, and are receptive to the other party.

We Offer

A temporary position over the summer period between weeks 25–32 with the possibility of extension in the form of hourly employment. Working hours are scheduled for all days of the week, evenings, and weekends. Night shifts by agreement.
