At the Department of Physics, strong and expanding research is conducted in various fields, such as organic electronics, nanotechnology, photonics, space physics, and theoretical physics. The department is part of KBC, the Chemical-Biological Center at Umeå University. We have a strong focus on interdisciplinary research and excellent access to modern instrumentation and infrastructure for analysis.

The Department of Physics is announcing a position for a staff scientist for projects aimed at the development of light-emitting electrochemical cells.

The position is 100% full-time and is fixed-term until 2026-05-01—2026-07-31.

Main Responsibilities

The project focuses on the manufacturing of light-emitting electrochemical cells (LECs) using spin-coating and vacuum evaporation, as well as the characterization of LEC components using impedance spectroscopy and regarding light emission performance.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with a PhD in physics or materials science with a focus on organic electronics. You must have documented skills in the fabrication of LEC components, measurement of light emission performance in LEC components, and determination of ionic conductivity and electric double layer structures in LEC components using impedance spectroscopy. You must have demonstrated the ability to work independently as well as part of a research group. Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities such as collaboration and communication skills, as well as analytical ability. It is important that you have good initiative and the ability to work independently. The project is conducted in an international environment, and therefore, very good proficiency in both spoken and written English is required.
